JOB DESCRIPTION

The Assistant Server plays a key role in creating a refined and memorable dining experience by supporting the service team with seamless and attentive assistance. This position works in close coordination with the Head Waiter/Waitress, culinary team, and management to ensure each guest receives exceptional care in line with GAIA’s service standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions

  • Greet guests warmly and assist in presenting menus when needed.
  • Run food and beverages to tables accurately and promptly, presenting items with care and professionalism.
  • Anticipate guest needs, responding promptly and courteously to requests.
  • Assist with menu guidance and provide knowledge of daily specials or modifications as directed by the Head Waiter.
  • Ensure tables are set, cleared, and reset efficiently while maintaining a polished dining environment.
  • Collaborate with kitchen and bar staff to ensure smooth and timely service.
  • Maintain GAIA’s grooming and uniform standards at all times.
  • Support the Head Waiter/Waitress in ensuring guest satisfaction throughout the dining experience

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist in stocking side stations and maintaining par levels of service items.
  • Carry soiled dishes and glassware to designated areas in a safe and organized manner.
  • Perform light cleaning duties as assigned to maintain the appearance of service areas.
  • Support colleagues by assisting in other sections or areas of the restaurant when needed.
  • Participate in pre-shift meetings and training sessions to stay updated on service protocols and menu details.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management to support the overall success of the operation.

  • Ability to stand and move quickly for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs as needed.
  • Certification such as “ServSafe” or equivalent preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and move quickly throughout the dining areas.
  • Regularly required to carry trays, glassware, and dishes with care.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced luxury hospitality setting with varying noise levels.
  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor dining spaces, including occasional heat, cold, or inclement weather.
  • Schedule includes evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs.
