The position of Machinist-VTL is responsible for the operation, set-up & utilization of all vertical turning lathes (VTL) as assigned to machine parts.


Essential Functions

1. Inspect manufactured components for conformance to specifications

2. Ability to set up and operate vertical turning lathes (VTL)

3. Support for programming, ensuring proper use of programs & tools

4. Ability to work from travelers, blueprints, set up sheets, drawings and/or verbal instructions as well as limited judgment and experience to plan and accomplish goals.

5. Able to use appropriate measuring devices, such as calipers, micrometers, height gages, plug gages, etc.

6. Maintain a clean work area daily as required.

7. Demonstrate a willingness to cross-train and support the development of other employees as needed. Including actively supporting cross-training initiatives to ensure team flexibility and shared knowledge for operational continuity.

Requirements

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Able to understand complex machining theory and strategy.
  2. Ability to manage and prioritize a high number of set-ups and short run jobs
  3. Able to understand and interrogate complex mechanical drawings and tolerances
  4. Technical Degree or equivalency is preferred
  5. Ability to use common machine shop hand and measurement tools.
  6. Ability to set-up and run multiple CNC Machines in a fast-paced environment.
  7. Fixture design, fabrication, and manual machining experience is a plus.
  8. Understand and follow Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance standard (GD&T).
  9. Strong math skills required.
  10. Aerospace experience a plus. 5 yrs. minimum experience, 10+ yrs. preferred)
  11. Self-motivation, able to accomplish high level of work.
  12. Team player, actively participating in continuous improvement projects with coworkers.
  13. Demonstrate high skill level with the desire for continuous learning.
  14. Experience working in AS9100 and ISO environment
  15. Ability to troubleshoot and edit programs.
  16. Must own tools appropriate to the job being performed.

Special Requirements and Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) Requirements:

  1. Safety glasses required when in manufacturing environment.
  2. Hearing protection as needed.
