Responsibilities

The Vice President, Portfolio Strategy & Marketing drives portfolio growth, commercialization, and marketing across healthcare, workforce, community, and digital learning solutions. This leader translates customer insights and business priorities into strategies that grow revenue, strengthen customer value, advance mission impact, and improve competitiveness. 

Reporting to the National SVP, Sales & Marketing, this role leads to portfolio strategy, commercialization, product marketing, demand generation, customer lifecycle growth, and market intelligence. The VP aligns product development, sales, customer success, digital products, and operations. 

Portfolio Strategy & Growth 

  • Develop and execute a multi-year portfolio strategy that drives revenue growth, customer value, and mission impact. 
  • Lead portfolio planning, product roadmaps, lifecycle management, pricing, packaging, and portfolio optimization. 
  • Evaluate market opportunities, customer needs, competitive dynamics, and emerging trends to inform investment decisions. 
  • Build business cases and growth strategies for new products, services, subscriptions, certifications, and digital solutions. 
  • Establish metrics to assess portfolio health, growth potential, and return on investment. 

 Product Commercialization & Go-to-Market Leadership 

  • Own go-to-market strategy and commercialization for new and existing products. 
  • Partner with sales leadership to develop sales enablement strategies, tools, training, and launch plans. 
  • Coordinate launch readiness across marketing, product, customer success, technology, and operations. 
  • Drive adoption, retention, engagement, and customer lifetime value. 
  • Lead market expansion efforts and identify new channels, segments, and growth opportunities. 

Marketing Strategy & Demand Generation 

  • Lead integrated marketing strategy across product marketing, demand generation, customer acquisition, and retention. 
  • Oversee positioning, messaging, value proposition development, segmentation, branding, and customer communications. 
  • Develop multi-channel programs that increase awareness, adoption, and revenue.
  • Optimize marketing investments through analytics, performance measurement, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure marketing efforts align with enterprise priorities and growth objectives.  

Market Insights & Customer Intelligence 

  • Lead voice-of-customer, competitive intelligence, and market research programs.
  • Translate customer needs and market trends into actionable product, marketing, and growth strategies.
  • Monitor performance, customer behavior, and industry trends to identify opportunities and risks.
  • Present strategic recommendations and portfolio insights to executive leadership.
  • Foster a customer-centric culture that drives innovation and continuous improvement.

Leadership & Enterprise Collaboration 

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team across portfolio strategy, product marketing, demand generation, and commercialization. 
  • Build strong partnerships with Sales, Digital Products, Customer Success, Operations, Technology, Finance, and Mission leaders. 
  • Establish clear accountability, decision-making processes, and performance expectations. 
  • Champion innovation, continuous learning, and a growth mindset throughout the organization. 
  • Serve as a key member of the Sales & Marketing leadership team and contribute to enterprise strategy development.  
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. 
  • Eight (8) years of progressive leadership in portfolio strategy, product management, commercialization, marketing, or related disciplines. 
  • Seven (7) years of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated success leading product portfolios, growth strategies, and cross-functional teams. 
  • Experience driving measurable revenue growth and business performance. 
  • Strong strategic planning, financial acumen, and business case development capabilities. 
  • Experience leading marketing, demand generation, customer acquisition, and customer retention initiatives. 
  • Exceptional communication, executive presence, and stakeholder leadership skills. 

 Preferred Qualifications 

  • Ten (10) years of progressive leadership in portfolio strategy, product management, commercialization, marketing, or related disciplines.
  • MBA or advanced business degree.
  • Experience in healthcare, education, certification, digital learning, subscription, SaaS, or mission-driven organizations.
  • Experience leading product-led growth, commercialization, and customer lifecycle strategies.
  • Knowledge of CRM, analytics, digital marketing, and marketing technology platforms.

This role unifies portfolio strategy, innovation, commercialization, and marketing into a product-to-market growth engine. 

Compensation & Benefits

Salary minimum to the midpoint of the range is $162,900.00 to $217,200.00. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials may apply to the pay range. This position is eligible for an incentive, with the potential to earn up to 25% of your base pay. The American Heart Association reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range.

  • Performance and Recognition - You are rewarded for achieving success through annual salary planning and incentive programs; this position is incentive eligible based on achieving certain targets. This position is eligible for an incentive, with the potential to earn up to 25% of your base pay
