Job description

Role Summary/Purpose:

As VP, Legal Marketing, you will serve as a liaison between the Synchrony Legal team and Marketing teams providing oversight and support for existing and new client marketing campaigns and processes. This role will report to the SVP, Senior Counsel - Marketing.

Essential Responsibilities:

Marketing Reviews

  • Review marketing collateral for all products and platforms across all channels of communications, including large strategic clients led by SVP Marketing Leaders, and assess relevant processes for compliance with law/internal policies providing comprehensive feedback. Ensure a balanced approach between legal risk, business strategy and customer/consumer viewpoint to deliver practical marketing solutions, escalating significant risks and issues to the appropriate level.

  • Partner with client marketing teams to ensure the applicable audience, communication channel and client objectives of a marketing campaign are considered and reflected in the associated collateral and processes.

  • Engage and collaborate with respective client attorney, all functions and subject matter experts, including compliance and risk as required to ensure potential Fair Lending, Program Agreement, Associate Training or other aspects of a client's marketing campaign are appropriately addressed.

  • Collaborate with Commercial Counsel on loyalty program changes, with Cardholder Documentation Counsel on Flips and Prescreens, with IP Counsel on potential trademark issues, and with Regulatory Counsel on new Advance Promo Notice client processes in support of respective clients' initiatives.

  • Manage challenging marketing review workload within established timelines while balancing frequent client expedited requests and other responsibilities.

Client Marketing Team Support

  • Provide and maintain subject matter expertise on assigned client's loyalty program, promotions, benefits, and acquisition channels.

  • Develop, maintain and drive implementation of marketing templates, guides and tools with the client marketing teams which address client specific brand, loyalty programs, promotional financing, strategic focus, communication channels, and advertising style.

  • Provide Legal Marketing expertise on cross functional integration teams for new clients

Training and Communication

  • Establish effective relationships and collaborate with individuals across the client marketing teams with responsibility for developing marketing campaigns to ensure they have an understanding of legal/regulatory marketing requirements. Influence actions without direct leadership responsibility for teams or processes to build relationships in a cross-matrixed environment (both cross-functionally and cross-business)

  • Develop continuous communication channels with assigned client marketing teams training and explaining marketing legal requirements, changes in law, revised templates, and feedback on marketing reviews.

Compliance and Regulatory Support

  • Respond to marketing compliance questions and audits and support regulatory examinations and other supervisory activities in connection with assigned client marketing activities.

Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned, including but not limited to developing subject matter expertise in Social Media and supporting the legal marketing team's AI objectives.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's and minimum of 6 years of financial service legal marketing experience, OR Juris Doctorate (JD) and minimum of 3 years of financial service legal marketing experience.

  • Consumer credit industry experience required

  • Must have knowledge and experience with regulations relating to financial services marketing for federal and state laws.

  • Experience identifying, assessing and elevating potential legal issues and analyzing limits and restrictions of marketing campaigns and impact on processes.

  • Detail Oriented Understanding of business systems & processes

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple complex matters and projects simultaneously in a matrix environment across competing priorities and across multiple functions and platforms in a fast paced growth business

  • Exceptional communications, relationship building, influencing and collaboration skills at all levels from associates to senior managers

  • Strong judgment and ability to understand the balance between business/legal considerations

  • 2 years of relationship management experience including the ability to develop strong working relationships with cross-functional business partners

  • Ability and flexibility to travel for business as required

The salary range for this position is 110,000.00 - 185,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.

Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months' time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months' time in position before they can post. All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don't meet the time in position or performance expectations).
