Location: Phoenix, Arizona 85008
Duration: 4+ Months

Shift: Swing Shift 2pm–10pm

 

Job Description

We are seeking a Security Officer (Swing Shift 2pm–10pm) to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in hospital and campus security operations, ingress/egress control, emergency response, and de-escalation and a proven ability to maintain a physically safe and secure environment across multiple facilities through proactive patrols, code response, and effective communication.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily rounds and manage egress/ingress control for Civil Hospital, Forensic Hospital, the Arizona Community Protection & Treatment Center, and the wider campus.
  • Respond to and participate in codes, drills, emergencies, and building or mall safety inspections while delivering customer service.
  • Rotate through assigned posts or serve as a campus interior rover as scheduled.
  • Assist in patient interventions to support staff and promote safety.
  • Problem-solve and assist in resolving patient conflict as appropriate.
  • Encourage proper Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) methods with unit staff and provide timely information to the on-duty Hospital Security Supervisor and others as needed.
  • Support vehicle and radio maintenance, safety inspections, and related documentation.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Security Guard or Security Officer, preferably in healthcare or campus settings.
  • Ability to receive, transmit, and carry out written and verbal directives.
  • Proficiency in verbal de-escalation techniques and language.
  • Knowledge of evacuation procedures and fire extinguisher use and operation.
  • Skill in proper investigation and report writing.
  • Ability to monitor and operate electronic cameras and safety equipment including radios, telephones, and emergency systems.
  • Capability to respond to hospital codes and provide verbal and/or physical intervention during critical patient interactions.
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships with patients or residents, staff, law enforcement, and visitors.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures and communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to perform physical duties including lifting and carrying.
  • Commitment to supporting a diverse, multicultural workforce and an inclusive work environment.

Preferred Skills:

  • NVCI certification or training.
  • Healthcare security experience across multiple facilities or campuses.
