Job description


Job Summary:

The Volunteer and Program Coordinator will oversee all volunteer coordination and volunteer training activities at Chrysalis’ Orange County office. Duties include onboarding, training, and coordinating all Orange County volunteers and providing backup support in the case of volunteer absences. The Volunteer & Program Coordinator will provide direct services to Chrysalis clients, helping them build resumes, practice for job interviews, and will teach Chrysalis’ job readiness classes as needed.


Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Volunteer Recruitment, Coordination, Training, and Engagement

  • Maintain close communication with all OC volunteers and provide direct support on a daily basis, including addressing day-to-day emails, inquiries, and needs.
  • Assess program needs, screen, onboard and train new volunteers regularly, and manage existing volunteers.
  • Support and/or carry out volunteer appreciation and engagement activities, including recognizing volunteer milestones and helping to plan/execute regular volunteer engagement events.
  • Evaluate volunteer performance on an ongoing basis, giving direct feedback, and following up with additional training as needed.
  • Work closely with Client Services team, attending weekly staff meetings and maintaining active communication about volunteers and client training activities.
  • Handle cross-functional communication and support across all Chrysalis sites, and support staff, clients, and volunteers.
  • Take on special projects to help the Volunteer & Program team create and implement new processes and streamline program operations.

Direct Client Service Delivery

  • Provide one-on-one resume preparation, practice interview services, and helping clients apply to jobs online, as well as facilitate job readiness classes as needed.

Customer Service and Administration

  • Coordinate volunteer schedules to ensure full coverage of one-on-one and job readiness classes.
  • Ensure up-to-date and complete tracking of volunteer activities in Chrysalis data systems.
  • Communicate regularly with Development and Communications Department regarding relevant volunteer activity, including a quarterly call.
  • Monitor and replenish supplies for all volunteer-related client services.


Job Skills & Qualifications

  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills highly preferred.
  • Highly motivated by Chrysalis’ mission and desire to improve social and economic
    fabric of our community.
  • Teaching/facilitation/training experience highly desired.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and intercultural skills.
  • Microsoft Word, typing and internet research proficiency required.
  • Excel and PowerPoint proficiency desired.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Prior experience achieving success working under limited supervision.
  • Comfortable speaking to crowds and communicating with a wide variety of audiences.
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Reliable transportation travel to meetings and provide coverage support at other Chrysalis offices
