GRID Alternatives is a national leader in making clean, affordable solar power and solar jobs accessible to low-income communities and communities of color. GRID is an entrepreneurial, high-growth non-profit organization that provides direct solar installation and project development; clean mobility options; workforce training and service-learning opportunities; and low-income solar policy advocacy.

Our Vision: a rapid, equitable transition to a world powered by renewable energy that benefits everyone.

Our Mission: to build community-powered solutions to advance economic and environmental justice through renewable energy.

What it's like to work at GRID…

At GRID, we care about each other and know that each employee has a whole self that includes life outside of work. Our culture supports learning, growth and well-being of all of our team members.

Summary of the role:

As a Journeyman Electrician Workforce Trainer at GRID Alternatives, you will bridge the gap between field knowledge and the next generation of tradespeople.

This role involves delivering hands-on instruction, developing curriculum, and mentoring learners to ensure a continuous pipeline of safe, code-compliant, and highly skilled electrical workers

What you will be doing (essential responsibilities):

Electrical Installation & Field Leadership

  • Collaborate with engineering and creative teams to optimize system builds and project execution for electrical (AC/DC) aspects of solar electric projects. This includes commercial and residential systems as well as energy storage, EV chargers, and main service panel upgrades.
  • Perform and coordinate residential and commercial solar PV installations in accordance with NEC, local codes, and GRID Alternatives standards.
  • Act as the licensed Journeyman Electrician on job sites, ensuring adherence to regulations, safety, and quality.
  • Lead crews of volunteers, trainees, and staff in daily installation activities.
  • Coordinate with inspectors, utilities, and permitting agencies as needed.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems and resolve technical issues in the field.
  • Assist in the procurement process of all electrical equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with all GRID Colorado and HQ departments. Attend team meetings, representing the organization in a positive manner to utility partners, potential donors, funders, sponsors, and the general community.

Workforce Training & Education

  • Deliver hands-on training in solar installation, electrical fundamentals, safety, and job readiness.
  • Develop and adapt training plans tailored to diverse learning styles and skill levels.
  • Mentor trainees, apprentices, and program participants, providing constructive feedback and career mentorship.
  • Evaluate participant progress and help track program outcomes.
  • Assist with course material preparation, update lesson plans, and align instruction with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the latest industry technology

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure OSHA standards and GRID Alternatives safety protocols are followed at all times.
  • Conduct jobsite safety briefings and ensure accurate use of tools and PPE.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to installations, inspections, and training activities.

Community Engagement & Mission Alignment

  • Represent GRID Alternatives’ mission and values at job sites and within the community.
