The Role


PVEDI recently partnered with Stratus and is seeking an Electrical Project Designer. This role will focus on the design of electrical, lighting, and fire-alarm services within the built environment.  Surveying and inspecting existing electrical, lighting, and fire-alarm systems, as well as other building components that impact electrical systems and energy consumption. Perform energy calculations and long-term sustainability analysis for construction upgrades to existing building systems. Reviewing the ongoing work of contractors for the completion of project activities (field and office) and preparing summary documentation (reports, correspondence, verbal communication) for Project Manager review. Digital drafting, calculations, and design of construction projects and document preparation for Project Manager review.


Responsibilities



  • Design electrical, lighting, and fire-alarm distribution systems for new construction, and assist with walkthroughs and surveys of existing buildings, focusing on all components that impact electrical/lighting/fire-alarm systems, including measurements, photos, and equipment inventory.
  • Short circuit, overcurrent coordination, load/arc flash studies, as well as lighting photometric calculations and circuitry/panelboard design for power and lighting devices
  • Becomes well versed in communicating the nuances of New York City’s various laws, building codes, and legislation, as well as NFPA 70 (Electrical) and NFPA 72 (Fire Alarm)
  • Assists with preparing summary documentation (photo reports, site markups, verbal communication)
  • Work with other disciplines/vendors for cross-collaboration and knowledge sharing
  • Digital drafting of schematic and detailed construction documents of various electrical and fire-alarm projects in both AutoCAD and Revit.


Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or applicable work experience.
  • 2-4 years of electrical engineering of buildings and/or design in support of various existing building projects and initiatives. Understanding of processes, compliance, and other design consulting and construction professionals.
  • Adhere to all Structures Group Special Competencies and Certifications listed within the Appendix A.
  • The ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work and exceptional organization skills required for our constantly evolving environment   
  • Basic working knowledge and experience of electrical and fire alarm distribution systems (panelboards, transformers, voltage drop, circuitry, device placement)
  • The position is based in Manhattan, NY and will involve moderate travel mainly throughout the five boroughs. Job requires the ability to navigate urban, rural, and industrial sites. Valid driver’s license and safe driving record strongly preferred.
  • Ability to walk stairwells, multiple stairs, various basement areas, and occupied spaces. Must also be able to sit for extended periods of time in front of a computer terminal, proficiently operating a computer keyboard while looking at the screen, and operating general office equipment.
  • Office is a temperature controlled, smoke free environment.
  • Field Inspection performed in outdoor temperature extremes for brief periods of time, but mostly indoors.
