The Production Associate deburrs and grinds cut steel pieces to precise specifications, using hand tools and power tools in a busy steel fabrication environment. This role supports safe, efficient production by preparing steel components for further processing and inspection.

Responsibilities

  • Deburr and grind down cut pieces of steel to remove sharp edges, burrs, and imperfections according to quality standards.
  • Operate a flapper disk tool running at approximately 11,000 RPM to smooth and finish steel surfaces safely and efficiently.
  • Use hand tools, including hand chisels and other basic tools, to perform detailed finishing and touch-up work on steel components.
  • Perform general labor tasks in the production area, such as moving materials, organizing workstations, and supporting machine operators as needed.
  • Assist with basic machine operating activities related to steel fabrication and finishing, following all safety and operating procedures.
  • Assemble steel components or subassemblies when required, ensuring proper fit and finish.
  • Inspect finished steel parts visually and by feel to verify that surfaces are properly deburred and meet quality requirements.
  • Identify and troubleshoot basic issues with finished parts, tools, or processes, and communicate concerns to the appropriate team members.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area, including proper handling and storage of tools and materials.
  • Follow all safety guidelines, including the correct use of personal protective equipment, and report any hazards or incidents promptly.

  • Background in general labor within an industrial, manufacturing, or production setting.
  • Ability to operate basic production and machine tools safely and reliably.
  • Experience with deburring and grinding metal parts or a strong mechanical aptitude to learn these tasks.
  • Capability to perform assembly tasks with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Basic inspection skills to identify defects, sharp edges, or surface imperfections on steel components.
  • Ability to troubleshoot simple issues in the production process and escalate problems when needed.
  • Comfort working in a loud, dusty, hot or cold industrial environment.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, handle steel parts, and operate power tools safely.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Prior experience in a steel fabrication shop or metalworking environment.
  • Familiarity with using a flapper disk or similar grinding tools at high RPM.
  • Experience with basic machine operation in a manufacturing setting.
  • Demonstrated reliability and strong work ethic in previous roles.
  • Willingness to learn new tools, processes, and safety procedures.
Why Work Here?

Team members enjoy a stable, long-term work environment where many employees stay for years, reflecting strong job security and a supportive culture. The workplace encourages camaraderie and teamwork, with regular monthly pitch-ins that foster a sense of community. Employees benefit from a hands-on, practical setting where they can build and refine industrial skills while contributing to a close-knit production team.

Work Environment

This role is based in a steel fabrication shop that can be hot in warmer months and cold in cooler seasons. The environment is dusty, dirty, and loud, with active grinding, cutting, and fabrication processes taking place throughout the day.
