You are driven and understand a variety of low voltage systems from Audio/Visual to Security (CCTV/Access Control) and telecommunications/infrastructure. You enjoy creating solutions for clients by "building the dream" alongside POM's design team and the client's project team.

Specializing in high-tech systems, cloud-based software services and audio/video solutions for thousands of businesses, schools and properties in the greater New York Metropolitan area, POM's diverse client roster comprises a wide range of prestigious and well-known organizations. Founded in 2002, POM has handled more than 2,000 site installations, primarily focused on large offices, retail, hospitality, health care, education, and real estate (commercial, luxury residential and hi-rise).
Roles & Responsibilities
Realize Client Objectives.The Design Engineer reviews the prospect's site and needs and works with the Senior Design Engineer, System Engineers, and the Sales team to design and develop the right solution.
  • Meet with clients virtually (sometimes in-person) to review project scope, discover needs and validate budgets to create a design proposal
  • Design low voltage systems and subsystem solutions from initial concept to final product based on client's requirements.
  • Generate and write Specification Requirement Documents for all designs.
  • Present on POM's capabilities and experience related to design/build and the benefits of a design/build model
  • Value engineer where necessary to deliver expected functionality within a client's budget

Support the Company Growth.The Design Engineer provides innovative electronic system solution designs for new and existing clients.
  • Stay informed of new technologies as they apply to all trades under the low voltage umbrella (AV, Security, Telecommunications, Converged Networks, IT and data, Emerging Technology, and beyond)
  • Prepare and document standard operating procedures and protocols.
  • Prepare low voltage plans and markups as deliverables during design/build phase
  • Organize deliverables for internal kickoff meetings and submittal packages to end-user
  • Review draft designs and documentations to ensure client's goals are being met

Increase Profit Margin. The Design Engineer ensures the design and scope is complete to avoid additional project costs and reduced margins after the project is sold.
  • Utilize documentation, application guides, and industry best practices to support the design and installation process
  • Keep a watchful eye on procurement times and price increases to ensure expectations are set properly with client or owners rep
  • Work with sales, customer success, and engineering/estimating teams to continue the culture around Design/Build as it is a prominent revenue stream for the company

Client Retention and Referrals.The Design Engineer will maintain relationships with partners and clients to drive business development through referrals and future projects.
Desired Skills and Experience
  • 3+ years' experience designing low-voltage systems
  • Working knowledge and /or certification with electronic security manufacturers such as Motorola (Avigilon), Axis, Vivotek, Brivo, Verkada, and Genetec, Commercial AV systems like Crestron, Extron, Atlona, Biamp, and QSC, general knowledge and connectivity of IT/Data systems including switches, firewalls, access points, and a general understanding of low voltage technology systems
  • Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD/Revitnot required, but a plus
  • Experience with network security and networking technologies
  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of latest technology principles, techniques, and protocols.
  • Problem solving skills and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment and in a growing department of our business
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Excellent resourcefulness and ability to adjust around procurement delays and changes in technology are a must
