Event Specialist, Part-Time (Non-Exempt)
Hourly Rate: $13.00–$16.00
Pay Grade: Part-Time | Starting rate is based on relevant experience and education.
Location: Farmpark, Kirtland, Ohio 44094
Position Summary:
Lake Metroparks is seeking a part-time Event Specialist to support the planning, coordination, and delivery of public and private events at Farmpark. Under the supervision of the Farmpark Events Manager, this position provides administrative and operational support; assists with event communications, setup, and logistics; and provides respectful service to participants, visitors, volunteers, clients, and community partners. This position works up to 28 hours per week on a varied schedule that may include weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education and/or Experience:
  • High school diploma, recognized equivalency credential, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and demonstrated skills required.
  • One to two years of experience providing customer service, coordinating events, supporting programs, or performing related administrative work preferred.
Certificates or Licenses:
  • Valid driver’s license and continued insurability under the Park District’s vehicle insurance requirements.
Required Training: Employees must complete and maintain all required Park District training, including applicable safety, fraud prevention, ethics, harassment prevention, and position-specific training.
Other:
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check is required.
  • Ability to work a varied schedule of up to 28 hours per week, including weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays, and to work outdoors in seasonal weather when assigned.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while following established procedures and service standards.
  • Ability to safely operate assigned Park District vehicles and equipment after required training.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responds promptly and professionally to telephone calls, emails, correspondence, and other communications related to event inquiries, reservations, and department operations.
  • Prepares, maintains, and organizes event contracts, invoices, records, correspondence, and related documents.
  • Maintains accurate event, program, and financial records and submits required activity reports to the supervisor.
  • Coordinates facility use and event logistics with Lake Metroparks staff, including event information, room or site setup, ranger support, alcohol-related requests, equipment needs, and related communications.
  • Supports event setup, delivery, and breakdown by preparing materials, monitoring event spaces, assisting participants and visitors, and communicating operational needs to appropriate staff.
  • Provides respectful and responsive service, shares accurate information about Lake Metroparks, and supports safe and efficient event operations.
  • Reviews department information on the Lake Metroparks website and submits update requests to the supervisor as needed.
  • Follows all applicable safety procedures, reports hazards or incidents promptly, and supports a safe environment for participants, visitors, volunteers, and staff.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands below describe activities commonly required to perform the essential duties of this position. Lake Metroparks provides reasonable accommodations to qualified employees who encounter barriers to employment, as required by applicable law.
The position regularly involves computer and telephone work; sitting, standing, and walking for varied periods; communicating with participants, visitors, volunteers, and staff; and using hands to handle documents, supplies, and event materials. Event support may require walking on indoor and outdoor surfaces, including uneven ground; using stairs; bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; and moving tables, chairs, displays, and supplies. The employee must be able to move items weighing up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally with assistance or material-handling equipment. The work also requires the ability to review printed and electronic information, observe event areas and surroundings, and communicate through telephone, radio, and in-person methods, with reasonable accommodation when applicable.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a working farm and office atmosphere, including offices, event and visitor spaces, barns, storage areas, and outdoor grounds at Farmpark. Assignments may occur indoors or outdoors during heat, cold, humidity, rain, snow, wind, and other seasonal conditions. The employee may work near visitors, volunteers, coworkers, live animals, farm vehicles and equipment, and on uneven, muddy, dusty, or slippery surfaces. Noise and activity levels vary with events, attendance, animals, equipment, and weather. Appropriate personal protective equipment is provided or required when necessary for assigned duties.
POTENTIAL HAZARDS
Potential hazards include contact with live animals, animal waste, allergens, hay, straw, dust, mud, insects, uneven or slippery surfaces, changing weather, vehicle traffic, farm equipment, moving machinery, tools, electrical cords, temporary event equipment, and materials used for setup and breakdown. Busy public areas and varying noise levels may also affect work conditions. The employee must follow applicable safety procedures, use required personal protective equipment, maintain awareness around animals and equipment, and report hazards, injuries, or incidents promptly.
