Volunteer Live-In House MentorTransitional Living Program (TLP) | Dover, NHBe the Safe Adult. Be the Positive Influence. Be the Difference.

Some young adults simply need someone in their corner.

Someone who believes in them.
Someone who listens.
Someone who models healthy relationships, accountability, and independence.
Someone who helps them see what's possible.

At Waypoint's Transitional Living Program (TLP), we provide young adults ages 18-21 with safe housing, support, and life skills as they navigate the transition into adulthood. As a Volunteer Live-In House Mentor, you'll play a meaningful role in creating a stable, welcoming, and supportive home environment where young people can grow, learn, and thrive.

This is more than a volunteer opportunity. It's an opportunity to help shape futures, build community, and create lasting impact in the lives of young adults who have experienced significant challenges.

Waypoint is seeking a Volunteer Live-In House Mentor for our Transitional Living Program in Dover, New Hampshire.

In exchange for providing approximately 10-12 hours of mentorship and support each week, House Mentors receive a private rent-free room within the residence. This opportunity is ideal for graduate students, emerging professionals, educators, human services professionals, or community members who are passionate about supporting young adults as they build independence and confidence.

As a House Mentor, you'll serve as a positive role model, trusted adult, and community builder. You'll help foster a safe, respectful, and supportive living environment while encouraging personal responsibility, healthy communication, and positive life skills.

You'll be supported by the TLP Manager and Care Coordinator and become part of a team dedicated to helping young adults successfully transition into adulthood.

  • Develop positive and supportive relationships with residents through authentic engagement and mentorship.
  • Spend intentional time in shared community spaces to promote connection, trust, and a sense of belonging.
  • Maintain a positive, strengths-based perspective on young people and their potential for growth.
  • Support a welcoming, inclusive, and affirming environment for all residents.
Encourage Independence and Accountability
  • Provide guidance, encouragement, and informal coaching around life skills and personal responsibility.
  • Conduct weekly room and chore checks and provide constructive feedback.
  • Help residents develop healthy routines, communication skills, and problem-solving strategies.

  • Assist with roommate mediation and conflict resolution when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with program staff to address concerns and support resident success.
  • Communicate important updates and concerns to the TLP Manager and Care Coordinator.
Participate as a Member of the Team
  • Attend House Mentor meetings and TLP team meetings throughout the year.
  • Participate in training and ongoing learning opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with program staff to support house operations and resident needs.
  • Help organize occasional pro-social activities and community-building events based on resident interests and feedback.
