Job description

The Katherine Thomas School, a nonpublic special education school in Rockville, MD, is seeking to hire reading teachers/reading specialists for the 2026-2027 school year for grades 6-12. Reading teachers will either work for the middle school or the high school program. EOE

Responsibilities for the Reading Teacher include:

  • Provide targeted reading instruction using evidence based, structured literacy practices for students with a range of learning needs
  • Must know and implement a variety of alternative reading programs, (examples include: Wilson, Fundations, Edmark, Phono-Graphix, Read Naturally, Lexia, Earobics, Orton-Gillingham, Corrective Reading, Leveled Literacy Intervention, Lindamood Bell and others)
  • Deliver small group and/or individualized interventions aligned to student IEP goals

Annual salary range of $62,000 to $85,000, depending on experience and level of education

Required Experience for the Reading Teacher/Specialist:

  • Must have a Bachelor's degree
  • Must be eligible for or have Maryland Special Education Teaching certification
  • Experience working with students with learning disabilities, autism, intellectual disabilities, and/or other health impairments preferred
  • Must be team oriented, reliable, and have a professional attitude
  • Must have mastery of the content area
  • Must have experience teaching reading strategies and study skills
  • Must possess analytical abilities sufficient to implement and develop curriculum, assess student abilities, and devise Individual Educational Plans
