ANNOUNCMENT
The Division of Mathematics and Computer Science at Maryville College, a selective four-year liberal arts college committed to superior teaching, invites applications for a one-year, full-time Visiting Lecturer of Computer Science position beginning in August 2026. Qualified candidates will be committed to excellence in teaching and champions of the liberal arts model of undergraduate education.
Teaching responsibilities include courses in programming, software design and development, algorithms, and supervision of senior projects. Additional responsibilities may include advising students and/or coaching the programming team.
Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, evidence of ongoing professional development, and a readiness to engage in the life of the college.
Education and Experience required to ensure success in this position:
Education and Experience required
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field required; ABD candidates in the final stages of degree completion will be considered.
- Previous undergraduate teaching experience preferred.
- Experience mentoring undergraduate research, supervising student projects, or supporting experiential learning opportunities preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Teaching and Student Learning
- Teach undergraduate courses in programming, software design and development, and algorithms.
- Supervise senior projects and support student completion of capstone experiences.
- Design and deliver effective learning experiences that support student success.
- Develop syllabi, course materials, and assessments aligned with program learning outcomes.
- Maintain accurate records related to instruction and student progress.
Curriculum Development and Academic Program Support
- Contribute to continuous improvement of the Computer Science curriculum.
- Participate in assessment of student learning outcomes and program effectiveness.
- Support undergraduate research and other high-impact educational practices.
- Collaborate with faculty to strengthen academic programming and student success initiatives.
Scholarship and Professional Engagement
- Maintain current knowledge of computer science disciplines and emerging technologies.
- Participate in scholarly, professional, or discipline-related development activities consistent with faculty expectations for visiting lecturer appointments.
- Support opportunities that connect students with internships, undergraduate research, and experiential learning.
Institutional Service and Faculty Governance
- Participate in departmental meetings and faculty governance activities.
- Support initiatives that advance student learning and academic excellence.
Collaboration and Campus Engagement
- Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and campus partners to support student success.
