Minimum Salary:$12,606.00/Annually
Maximum Salary:$29,745.00/Annually
License and Certification Qualifications: Parapro Educator certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC) required.
Education Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent and passed the Praxis Parapro Assessment (prior to March 1, 2007) or the GACE Parapro Assessment required. In lieu of assessments, 60 semester or 90 quarter hours from a Professional Standards Commission (PSC) approved college or university are required.
Experience Qualifications: Experience working with basic computers and technology required. Experience with general productivity software such as a word processor preferred. Previous experience working with children and adults preferred.
Skills Qualifications: Knowledge of child development; strong interpersonal skills; strong organizational and clerical skills; working knowledge of office and media equipment; willingness to learn new technologies; ability to operate computers and Windows applications; and ability to work and communicate with students, staff, and the community.
Primary Responsibilities: Provide support to the local school media center under the supervision of the Media Specialist(s) to ensure a quality media program which provides media resources, facilities, and services to all areas of the instructional program.
1. Provide instructional support to the local school media center.
a. Assist patrons with media center activities and technologies.
b. Identify and gather appropriate media center resources as needed.
c. Work with Media Specialist(s) to train and supervise volunteers and student assistants.
d. Follow policies and procedures in the supervision of students.
e. Assist Media Specialist(s) with special events.
f. Maintain familiarity of the media center collection.
g. Maintain an environment of respect and collaboration where all staff members work toward the common goal of student learning.
h. Work with Media Specialist(s) to implement safe, legal, and ethical use of information.
i. Encourage the use of multiple formats for reading and research.
2. Support a professional learning and growth environment.
a. Maintain electronic records in the online catalog.
b. Assist with the operation of the online media catalog.
c. Shelve and maintain correct order of materials.
d. Assist Media Specialist(s) with the inventory of the media center collection and equipment.
e. Assist Media Specialist(s) with the operation and maintenance of instructional equipment.
f. Repair media center materials as directed.
g. Create and submit electronic repair/maintenance requests for media equipment.
h. Manage inter-library loans.
i. Order, receive, and process media center materials.
j. Maintain routine record keeping as directed.
k. Ensure the media center is organized and orderly for optimal accessibility of resources.
l. Prepare media center correspondence and communications.
m. Assist Media Specialist(s) in scheduling the use of media center, equipment, and resources.
n. Assist Media Specialist(s) in collecting media center data and reports.
3. Participate in professional learning opportunities.
a. Attend local and district professional learning opportunities as instructed.
b. Assist Media Specialist(s) in providing professional learning opportunities for faculty and staff in a classroom setting or one-on-one setting.
4. Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. Employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. Employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
