Auxiliary

Summary

Auxiliary members provide support to Sworn and Civilian WRPS members at special community fundraising events, RIDE programs, emergency callouts and a variety of other events throughout the Waterloo region. Auxiliary members volunteer in all weather conditions and assist with functions including traffic direction, RIDE programs, search for missing persons, engaging with community groups, handing out crime prevention and other educational material, and accompanying Sworn officers on their shift.

You Will:

    Performs traffic control, at assigned locations, pursuant with the Highway Traffic Act.
    Provides support with crowd management, and control, at assigned event venues.
    Provides support with search for missing persons requests.
    Performs special duties pursuant to the Police Services Act, as authorized by the Chief of Police.
    Assists at RIDE programs for the purpose of traffic direction and public education.
    Assists Patrol or Traffic Services officers in "Ride-along" programs.
    Assists with community-based programs, including community outreach.
    Conducts telephonic surveys in relation to issues of interest to the Service and the community.
    Hands out promotional and public educational material to the public, at community events, or as needed.
    Assists with training of Sworn members, such as use of force scenarios etc.
    May assist with shuttling of police vehicles.
    Performs other related duties as authorized by the Chief of Police.

You Have:

    Successful completion of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma, or its equivalent as determined by the Ministry of Education (if educated outside of Ontario).
    Must be a Canadian citizen or hold a permanent resident status, at the time of applying, pursuant to the governing legislations.
    Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age at the time of applying.
    A valid Class "G" Ontario Drivers License with no more than six (6) demerit points.
    A valid Level C CPR/First Aid Certificate.
    Upon receipt of a conditional offer, must provide proof of medical clearance by a legal medical practitioner, certifying the candidate to be physically fit for duty as an Auxiliary member.
    Ability to clear a psychological examination and report satisfactory to the Chief of Police.
    Must provide proof of release from former service with a police service, or Canadian Armed Forces, if applicable.
