Job description

Job Summary: The Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Advocacy Coordinator provides day-to-day support to CASA volunteers, ensuring that children receive professional advocacy and early permanency planning. This primarily involves the supervision and coordination of volunteers, who provide CASA services to abused and neglected children.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Volunteer Management
    • Assigns volunteers to new cases under supervision of CASA Program Director and makes recommendations for termination when necessary
    • Prepare court orders appointing and removing CASA volunteer and distributes paperwork to assigned volunteers
    • Maintains regular contact with CASA volunteers and provides assistance and consultation
    • Review volunteers' reports and assist volunteers with report writing, as needed
    • Attend court hearings, Citizen Panel Reviews, Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings with volunteers as needed
    • Assists CASA Program Director in yearly evaluation of volunteer performance
  2. Case Management
    • Reviews incoming case referrals and assigns volunteers
    • Assists CASA volunteers with advocacy, based on specific case information
    • Assists CASA volunteers with research, as necessary
    • Ensures that volunteer receives up-to-date case information, as information is received by the CASA program
    • Maintains up-to-date case information, such as volunteer reports and case plan
  3. Court and Panel Liaison
    • Monitors dates of court hearings and panel reviews
    • Notifies volunteers of upcoming court dates
    • Distributes CASA reports for court hearings and panel reviews
    • Provides court orders for Judge's signature and files originals with Clerk of Court
    • Testify in court proceedings as needed
  4. Record Keeping and Statistics
    • Prepare reports on volunteer statistics for CASA Program Director to include in monthly reports to Board of Directors and monthly newsletter
    • Maintains accurate volunteer assignment information in individual volunteer files
    • Maintains accurate case information in individual child files
    • Obtain and maintain hours and miles donated by volunteer to program on monthly basis.
  5. Additional Duties
    • Meets weekly with CASA program director for supervision purposes, if required.
    • Attends workshops, training, and conferences, as appropriate
    • Assists in CASA program event planning as needed
    • Assists in volunteer recruitment, screening, and training as needed
    • Assists with agency fund raising events as needed
    • Assists with and give input on yearly program evaluation

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required, with Master's degree preferred from an accredited college in psychology, sociology, social work, education, or other closely related field.
  • Knowledge of child welfare and legal system.
  • Two years experience, paid or volunteer, in a non-profit social agency, in a child advocacy field, or as a volunteer trainer/coordinator is highly desirable
  • Ability to collaborate with other professionals both within and outside the agency setting and the ability to form positive working relationships with individuals and groups
  • Submission of a clear criminal background check

Working Conditions:
  • Primarily works in an office setting.
  • Requires the ability to sit for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • May require occasional lifting of office supplies and equipment.
