Job description

SCHOOL NURSE - covering leaves for Claypool Elem first semester and Lakeview Middle School second semester
Reports to: School Nurse Coordinator/Building Administrator
General Summary: The School Nurse will maintain and/or improve the students' health status, thereby enabling them to fully benefit from educational experiences
Essential Functions:
  • Assist the head nurse in coordinating the health services program
  • Implement immunization requirements and all screening programs mandated by Indiana law
  • Implement non-mandated health programs approved by the Board of School Trustees
  • Assess, identify, monitor and refer health needs of students
  • Maintain current cumulative health records for all students
  • Advise teachers on health matters particularly relative to screening for student health defects
  • Serve as a liaison between school, home and community
  • Visit students' homes on an as needed basis and contacting homes of children referred by the principal
  • Provide health counseling to students, their families and school personnel
  • Administer firs aid and emergency procedures in accordance with established procedures
  • Collaborate with teachers, students and parents in the appropriate placement of students
  • Implement policy on exclusion/readmission of students in conjunction with infectious and contagious diseases
  • Cooperate with community organizations in coordinating services with those provided in the school
  • Provide teacher orientations and in-services in techniques for observing students for signs of health problems
  • Coordinate and supervise the training of volunteers and/or health room assistants in screening techniques, first aid and clerical responsibilities
  • Serve as a resource person in matters pertaining to health curriculum planning
  • Participate in school health councils; provide consultation to other school and community groups concerned with health
  • Perform other reasonably-related duties as may be assigned by the head nurse and/or other appropriate administrators
Qualifications:
  • Registered Nurse with current Indiana license
  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing
  • Experienced nurse preferred

Length of Contract: 180 days
Position Type: Exempt
