Manager - Gift Shop and Volunteer Services

Job Summary:
Mount Sinai Medical Center has a new opportunity for a Manager of Gift Shops and Volunteer Services. This role will be directly responsible for overall management and operations of the Gift Shops at Mount Sinai Medical Center. This includes achieving sales goals, managing daily operations such as opening and closing procedures, inventory management, accounting functions, unpacking and pricing merchandise, merchandising the store, and reordering stock. In addition, the manager is responsible for orientations, interviews, onboarding and placement of prospective staff and volunteers in coordination with the Director of Volunteer Services.
Gift Shop(s)
  • Schedules and trains employees to ensure that the gift shop operates at full capacity at all times.
  • Manages and maintains Quickcharge full-featured Point of Sale system, back office support, standard reporting, inventory control system and inventory scanning.
  • Supervises cashiering and receipting the sale of merchandise by cash and charge transactions and performs such duties as required; maintains sales records and makes daily reports.
  • Prepares monthly and annual financial reports.
  • Directs, buys and coordinates the quality and types of merchandise that best meets the needs of staff, patients and visitors.
  • Designs or directs creative, attractive displays to entice customers in the most effective manner.
  • Conducts periodic physical inventory of products.
  • Plans and executes special events and sales days through scheduling and supervising vendors for special sales in gift shop.
  • Receives products, creates inventory control procedures, marking, and pricing.

Volunteer Services
  • Develops and recommends goals and objectives for the volunteer function, coordinating with department heads to develop services suitable to volunteers and useful to the hospital.
  • Interviews volunteer applicants to determine their aptitudes, abilities, interests and other qualifications.
  • Ensures volunteers successfully complete new hire screening and onboarding process (criminal background check, health screening, etc).
  • Conducts new volunteer orientation and other relevant training that may be required.
  • Manages staff involved in volunteer effort, providing feedback and guidance.
  • Establishes goals, monitors progress and provides coaching that enables staff to meet their goals.
  • Establishes clear lines of responsibilities and communications.
  • Ensure staff / volunteer coverage of assignments in accordance with hours of operation.
  • Plans and executes a variety of volunteer appreciation initiatives and events.
  • Monitors and evaluates the quality and effectiveness of volunteer programs on an ongoing basis.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 2 year's managerial or supervisor experience is similar role
  • Experience with Quickcharge or other Point of Sale system preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
