Job description

Job Title: Wastewater Treatment Plant Field Operator Location: Rochester, NY Type: Direct Hire Compensation: $21.00 - $25.00 Work Model: Onsite Hours: Rotating shift schedule (12-hour shifts)

Responsibilities

  • Conduct sampling and testing of wastewater and document results.
  • Perform routine equipment/system checks to ensure proper operation of pumps, conveyors, blowers, chlorinators, vacuum equipment, and other treatment equipment.
  • Record operational data and maintain accurate logs.
  • Monitor, check, and adjust controls and equipment as needed; assist with troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Perform routine laboratory analysis and interpret results using mathematical calculations.
  • Oversee chemical deliveries/off-loading and support chemical inventory tracking.
  • Maintain equipment and work areas in clean, safe, and operable condition.
  • Assist with development and continuous improvement of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Follow all safety, environmental, and work instruction requirements; perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to work a rotating shift schedule (12-hour shifts).
  • Valid driver’s license and required insurance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Basic math skills and ability to perform calculations for lab/operational data.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Team-oriented and able to follow procedures and safety/environmental rules.
  • Wastewater treatment systems operator certification (preferred).
  • Prior experience in wastewater treatment operations (preferred).
  • Knowledge of wastewater regulatory programs.
  • Knowledge of regulatory reporting requirements and systems.
  • General understanding of plant equipment and functionality.
