Job Title: Environmental Technician

Job Description

As an Environmental Technician, you will assist with a variety of tasks including environmental assessment, monitoring, sampling, inspection, research, data management, reporting, and design support services. These projects span across municipal solid waste landfill, electric utility, brownfield redevelopment, and petroleum tank projects. Depending on your technical group, your focus may vary within specific areas of the environmental field, although cross-training for multiple disciplines may be required. You will work closely with your supervisor and Project/Task Managers for both ongoing and new assignments, ensuring all work aligns with project schedules. This role involves both field and office settings, and you should be eager to learn all aspects of environmental consulting, completing assigned training to advance your knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in environmental assessment, monitoring, and sampling.
  • Conduct inspections and research to support environmental projects.
  • Manage data and reporting tasks related to environmental projects.
  • Provide design support services for various environmental projects.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and Project/Task Managers for assignments.
  • Conduct assignments in both field and office settings.
  • Complete training to advance knowledge in environmental consulting.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science or a related field preferred.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Basic understanding of scientific concepts including physics, statistics, chemistry, mathematics, and geosciences.
  • Ability to travel and work in varied weather conditions.
  • Completion of or willingness to complete 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • No experience required, but environmental fieldwork is preferred.

Work Environment

The role requires preparation of short-form site-specific health and safety plans as needed. Participation in health and safety training is mandatory. The position involves local and overnight travel, ranging from 50% to 90% of the time, depending on project requirements.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of West Des Moines, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
