Job description

Stable Hand

Blue Sun Farm is a 112-acre farm with a lesson program and a 13-stall barn that leases out to a dressage facility. We are consistently growing our farm which includes, 10 Blue Sun horses, 11 pasture board horses, and 9 stall board horses. Blue Sun has two outdoor arenas and an indoor arena. We take pride in giving the utmost care to out horses and clients providing welcoming space with growth opportunities both for horses and riders alike. Our mission is to take care of all animals on property like they are our own and make a comfortable environment for employees, horses, and riders. We are a part of the Volunteer Agriculture District and have two hay fields and producing a line of sheep as well as building our assets in the equestrian community. We would love to grow our community with employees willing to be a part of our growing facility!

7 DAYS A WEEK

AM feed: 7am - 11-11:30am

PM feed: 3:30pm - 5:30pm

*When barn chores/feeding is finished there is field hand and farm maintenance task available all day.

Duties

  • Seeking a reliable barn hand with flexibility in hours
  • MUST have experience with horses; feeding, turnout, mucking stalls, filling and cleaning water troughs/buckets, putting out hay, changing blankets
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs
  • Clean stalls, paddocks, and common areas to maintain hygiene standards.
  • Assist with the operation of small machinery for farm maintenance tasks (gator, ATV, leaf blower, manure spreader).
  • Use hand tools for repairs and maintenance as needed.
  • Monitor animal behavior and report any concerns to management.
  • Need to be available year-round including some holiday shifts.

Experience

  • Must have experience with horses
  • Basic math skills for measuring feed and medication dosages.
  • Familiarity with small equipment operation is an advantage.
  • Mechanical knowledge is beneficial for performing repairs on equipment.
  • A willingness to learn about growing practices and animals is essential!
