Job description

AFS Big Brothers Big Sisters Outreach & Engagement VISTA
Big Brothers Big Sisters provides children facing adversity with strong and enduring, one to one mentoring relationships. As the nation's largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, BBBS creates meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers ("Bigs") and children ("Littles"), ages 6 through young adulthood, to help young people reach their full potential. Locally, the organization has served youth through mentoring since 1969, when Big Brothers of Mahoning County first provided guidance and friendship to young males. In 1977, services expanded to include both boys and girls in Mahoning and Trumbull Counties, and that same year Big Brothers Big Sisters of Portage County began serving youth in Portage County. In 2023, services expanded into Mercer County, Pennsylvania, resulting in the organization's current name. Today, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern OH & Western PA serves Jefferson, Columbiana, Portage, Mahoning, and Trumbull Counties in Ohio, as well as Mercer County in Pennsylvania, with offices located in Steubenville, Warren, and Ravenna. Responsibilities include outreach planning, volunteer communication, coordinating donated materials for youth interviews and site based activities, and analyzing recruitment and outreach efforts. The ideal candidate is organized, self motivated, and interested in community engagement, youth development, or nonprofit work. This is an opportunity to gain hands on experience in volunteer recruitment, partnership development, and capacity building while making a meaningful impact in a multi county, cross state service area.
Member Duties : The Outreach and Engagement VISTA will strengthening volunteer recruitment, outreach, and engagement systems across six service areas. The VISTA will review and improve outreach materials, organizing volunteer data and tracking systems, and supporting outreach planning with schools, employers, and community partners. The VISTA will coordinate volunteer information sessions, communication with current volunteers to encourage retention, and track recruitment and outreach progress. The VISTA will effect partnership development, expand outreach for community- based and site based programs, coordinate donated materials for youth interviews and activities, and assist with identifying gaps in outreach across counties. During the final months of service, the VISTA will support evaluation of outreach efforts, document effective strategies, and help refine sustainable systems for volunteer recruitment and retention to ensure continued organizational capacity beyond the VISTA term
