Job description

Job Title Catering Assistant
Department Catering Departments
Reports To: Culinary and Catering Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt
Hours: Part Time (25 hours per week)
SUMMARY
The Catering and Culinary Assistant supports the daily operations of Inside the Box, Sulzbacher's social enterprise catering company, and provides direct assistance to the Culinary Arts Program (CAP). Core responsibilities include receiving and processing catering orders, coordinating deliveries, managing staff scheduling, maintaining inventory, and ensuring responsive customer communication and follow-up. This role also supports the Culinary Arts Program through recruitment outreach, classroom and demonstration experiences, catering practicums, and externship placement coordination.
Classification amp; Schedule
This is a part-time, non-exempt position scheduled for 30 hours per week, five days a week. Hours may vary based on staffing needs and will include some holidays.
Supervisory Responsibilities
None
Essential Duties for Catering Coordinator
  1. Responsible for taking and imputing all orders
  2. Follow up calls to customers to ensure quality
  3. Create labels for orders
  4. Responsible for deliveries or setting up delieveris when unavailable
  5. Work with the Chef to order supplies and food for catering orders.
  6. Work with the Chef to prepare daily schedules for incoming orders at the start of each week.
  7. Work with the Cheff to manage work schedules to ensure a proper number of staff, volunteers, and/or culinary students are available to manage execution of daily orders.
  8. All other duties as assigned.
Culinary Program Responsibilities:
  1. Work with the Chef to order and prepare required inventory for culinary lab and student dining operations while meeting or exceeding budgetary goals.
  2. Work with the Chef to communicate with the Goodwill recruiters on new student recruitment, orientation, and updates on current student attendance and participation.
  3. Work with The Chef Create to create and maintain relationships with Jacksonville Restaurants to create externship opportunities and job placement for students.
  4. Assist the Chef with taking external catering orders for the class to participate in
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Valid Florida driver’s license and willing to do deliveries
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff and volunteers in a firm and courteous manner.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy with the ability to track and maintain food service numbers on a daily and monthly basis.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations such as homeless, emotionally vulnerable, or medically supervised individuals preferred.
  • Concept of USDA requirements and basic warehousing.
  • Proficient in Outlook, Word, Excel, and other basic computer skills.
  • Ability to pass a Level II Background Screening
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Personal vehicle and valid Florida driver's license
  • Acceptable annual Motor Vehicle Record check
  • Ability to pass a Level II Background check
  • Physically able to work flexible times, as required, supporting Food and Nutrition Services staff and shelter needs
  • Ability to travel locally occasionally
  • Work in commercial kitchen and office setting
  • Ability to accurately keep records and compile collected data
