Job description

Job Overview
The Senior Cad Designer is responsible for producing product designs, utilizing CAD tools. This role prepares detailed drawings of part and assemblies from discussions, and sketches, using software tools, and ensures that drawings incorporate all design features and maintain the product style. The Senior CAD Designer contributes design modifications to improve the quality and function of the product and may be responsible for the administrative coordination of work done within the CAD and PDM Tools.
A Day In The Life
  • Work with CAD files, sketches, marked up drawings, and other documented information furnished by Design Engineers or from suppliers.
  • Creating drawings by planning arrangement of a product assembly, appropriate views, sections, and details as required to best describe the assembly or part geometry.
  • Drafting dimension and tolerance part drawings that may incorporate complex details.
  • Verifying completed drawings against input requirements prior to submittal to Program Manager or Engineers.
  • Executing revisions on detail, assembly, and customer drawings, or engineering specification documents. To document revisions, the following skills are required: personal computers, Product assembly, BOM knowledge, and technical writing for authorized by an Engineering Change Notification.
  • Designing products that meet customer specifications and expectations.
  • Making design adjustments to improve product manufacturability and quality.
  • Producing 3D parametric models in CAD (Creo, Inventor, Windchill preferred).
  • Creating part detail, fabrication, and assembly drawings which will be used to manufacture the products.
  • Verifying completed drawings against input requirements and bills of materials prior to release for manufacture.
  • Maintaining file lifecycles and revisions in PLM (Windchill).

What will help you thrive in this role?
  • High school Diploma and one-year advanced study in CAD drafting plus two years of specialized training (required)
  • Advanced study in CAD drafting, plus several years of specialized training (preferred)
  • Specialized training is defined as work exposure in the field of drafting, utilizing "Board" and "CAD" methods using precise drawing techniques and convention (required)
  • 2-3 years minimum experience in drafting and engineering changes in product development environments (required)
  • 5-10 years of experience in designing mechanical components (required)
  • SAP experience (preferred)
  • Exposure to ANSI Y14.5 and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) Standards (preferred)
