Volunteer Code Tester Jobs (NOW HIRING)

Duties * You will perform traditional nondestructive inspection of castings, forgings, machined parts, test plates, welds, metal cladding, pipes, bar stock, flat metal sheets, airframe and engine assemblies. * You will utilize NDI test equipment and chemicals applicable to the total range of nondestructive examination methods. * You will calibrate and operate traditional test equipment such as eddy current testing (ET) equipment, magnetic particle testing (MT) equipment, penetrant testing (PT) equipment, visual testing (VT) equipment and temper etch (TE) equipment. * You will inspect parts for flaws or defects, discontinuities in patterns, interprets indications and documents flaws or defects in material and prepares reports on defective parts. * You will work with subordinate inspectors to set the pace and demonstrate proper inspection methods and may be required to work with trainees. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing. * You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases. * You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. * Position requires heavy lifting over 40 pounds and carrying of objects up to 40 pounds. Any weight to be lifted in excess of 40 pounds will not be attempted unaided. * Tasks performed standing, sitting at a bench, and walking. At times pulling, pushing, stooping and reaching are required with prolonged kneeling, bending, and squatting for a period in excess of 6 hours. * Subject to various noise levels which occasionally exceeds 85 OBA. NOTE: Hearing protection must be worn for noise levels of 85 OBA and double protection is required for levels over 105 DBA. * This position requires corrected vision as eye strain may occur from prolonged work on small parts, near vision correctable at 14" to Jaeger 2 and far vision correctable to 20/20 in one eye. Incumbent must be able to distinguish color. * Position requires participation in a medical surveillance program for noise, sight, respirator and radiation. * May be required to work as a radiation barrier monitor in radiation areas where x-ray is being used and required to wear proper monitoring equipment for ionizing radiation. Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen Out Element for this position is the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Performing inspections of various forms of ferrous and nonferrous aircraft metals and engine parts using nondestructive testing equipment and examination methods and techniques; 2) Reading and interpreting specifications, sketches, blueprints, technical directives, manuals and shop orders to interpret and/or develop information on products to be tested and examined; and 3) Calibrating and setting up nondestructive testing equipment, components or assemblies to produce the optimum results desired for the examinations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
