Job description

Duties Description The primary duties of this position will be to work closely with Wildlife Biologists to resolve human/wildlife conflict issues including but not limited to bear, deer, moose, beaver, coyote and turkey. As needed emergency wildlife response involving chemical immobilization will be also be required. This incumbent will also implement access and habitat-related management activities on Region 4 Wildlife Management Areas in the western half of the region.

Other duties may include: assist wildlife biologists, foresters and EPS 1 with various wildlife surveys and studies, collect biological and demographic data including but not limited to big game season, waterfowl banding, furbearer studies, collection of pathology samples, assist with public presentations/outreach, and provide oral and written information to the public when needed. Incumbent will provide supervision to Fish & Wildlife Technician 1 (s) and other temporary staff, interns and/or volunteers. Supervisory tasks include initiating hiring paperwork, developing employee performance programs, completing performance evaluations, and approving leave requests, time and activity accounting (LATS), and travel accounting reports (FMIS).

Minimum Qualifications Three years of experience in fisheries, wildlife, or marine resources management; fish or wildlife propagation; a living marine resources program; or a fish, wildlife, or marine research program. Substitution: one year of college coursework including at least 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources, wildlife management, or a related field, may substitute for one year of the experience described. Additional Comments This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2027, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date.

Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.

Must be able to work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required.

Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required.

Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. Incumbent will need to receive rabies vector immunizations upon hiring if not already immunized. This is provided by the employer.

Telecommuting may be available up to 50% of work schedule, will be discussed at interview.
