Description
Iredell County Animal Services is the only municipally ran shelter in Iredell County tasked to provide various animal welfare related services to both the citizens and animals whom reside within the county. Some of those services include, but aren't limited to taking in owned animals for numerous reasons, receiving strays, providing protective custody assistance and other animal welfare assistance as required. In a given year, we can take in upwards of 4,000 animals. In addition, ICAS works to ensure that all animals entering into their care receive the best possible outcome, based on each individual animal and circumstance. The ICAS Volunteer Program's main purpose is to assist Shelter Staff in providing care for the animals while they are housed at the shelter. ICAS Volunteers provide this assistance by performing various tasks and duties assigned to numerous positions throughout the shelter. Some of those duties include, but aren't limited to the following: provide animal care and enrichment, assist with promotions and events, perform administrative duties, educate the public on the numerous services ICAS provides, along with sharing the goals and mission of ICAS with the citizens of Iredell County and surrounding communities. All volunteers are trained by senior volunteers/animal care staff/other staff in all positions they are eligible to perform. No volunteer should attempt to perform any task without first being properly trained.
Examples of Duties
The Iredell County Animal Services Volunteer Program involves the usual animal handling risks including exposure to pet dander, hair, and waste. Volunteers must be able to physically control any animal with which they are interacting, including rabbits, rodents, cats, dogs, birds, and reptiles based on their training
Animal behavior is unpredictable and the information that Iredell County Animal Services has in regards to any animal in the Animal Shelter may have been received via third party and may or may not be accurate. Volunteers must be able to make sound decisions when handling animals and are required to report problems promptly to the Adoption Staff.
This position is not eligible for benefits.
