POSITION SUMMARY:

The Infection Preventionist will work with the Lead Infection Preventionist to evaluate quality of resident care and resident outcomes as they relate to both community acquired and healthcare-associated infections. Prepare and present educational opportunities for the staff; report data to appropriate agencies; serve as a resource to both communities in infection control measures for both residents and employees.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist the Lead IP with the monitoring and surveillance of all infections and report to PA-PSRS and county/state health departments as required.

Maintain and update infection control policies and procedures.

Fulfill Lead IP duties during any absence.

Assist with any COVID-19 or Flu testing as needed.

Serves as a resource for both communities in infection control for both residents and employees.

Assist the Lead IP in conducting outbreak investigations and initiating infection control measures as needed.

Reports communicable diseases to the state and county as required by regulation/law.

Provides educational opportunities for orientation and ongoing trainings.

Work with Relias system admin to ensure updated training for staff.

Follow up on employee/resident exposures to communicable diseases and provide monitoring and follow up as needed.

On call every other weekend to take phone calls and respond to emergency situations pertaining to infection control as well as other issues as warranted. May need to respond to the facility if the situation warrants.

Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:Required:
  • LPN
  • Oneyear previous experience
  • Current state license as an LPN or RN in the State of PA
  • Preferred:
  • RN
  • Completion of a basic program for Infection Control in long term care
  • Two years in a geriatric setting
  • Current state license as an LPN or RN in the State of PA
  • CDC Nursing Home IP Training course completed
