Job description

Position Title: Volleyball Assistant Coach
Reports To: Building Principal/Athletic Director
Location: Southfield A&T High School
Start Date/End Date: August 2026-October 2026 (2026-2027 School Year - FALL ATHLETICS)
Salary: $2,200.00 Stipend per the SEA CBA (paid at the end of the season based on the payment calendar)
Position Summary:
The Volleyball Assistant Coach is responsible for providing support in developing and leading a competitive volleyball program that emphasizes skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and academic achievement. The coach will plan, organize, and supervise all aspects of the volleyball program while fostering a positive environment that supports the overall mission of the school or organization.







Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and conduct effective practices focused on skill development, game strategy, conditioning, and teamwork.
  • Provide positive leadership and mentorship to student-athletes both on and off the court.
  • Teach the fundamentals of volleyball including serving, passing, setting, hitting, blocking, and defense.
  • Develop game plans, analyze opponent strategies, and make real-time decisions during matches.
  • Promote a culture of high standards, accountability, and respect among players.
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all athletes.
  • Collaborate with the Athletic Director to coordinate scheduling of games, transportation, and facilities.
  • Ensure players meet academic and eligibility requirements and uphold conduct expectations.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, players, school staff, and athletic department.
  • Manage equipment and uniforms, including inventory and maintenance.
  • Recruit and retain student-athletes to build a sustainable and competitive program.
  • Comply with all school, league, and state athletic association rules and regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience coaching volleyball at the high school, collegiate, or club level.
  • Knowledge of volleyball techniques, rules, and strategies.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate skills and drills.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Collegiate playing experience or advanced volleyball training background.
  • Proven track record of developing successful volleyball teams or programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and the community.
