YouTube Script Writer

New York, NY • On-site

Full-time

Re-posted 9 days ago

Job description

Role

Create YouTube scripts that transform healthcare expertise into videos patients actually choose to watch.

You'll write for doctors, surgeons, dentists and other health professionals, taking their expertise, perspectives and source material and turning it into compelling 6 to 10-minute YouTube videos that educate, build trust and keep viewers watching.

You won't be responsible for leading client strategy or conducting expert interviews. You'll be given the core ingredients for each video, including the topic, angle, source material and practitioner insights.

Your job is to turn those ingredients into an excellent script.

This isn't blogging, SEO writing or summarizing information into video format. You need to understand what makes someone click, what keeps them watching, when to reveal information, what to cut and how to make complex health information sound natural when spoken.

We need someone who writes for the ear, not the eye.

Every sentence should make the next sentence easier to keep listening to.

Engagement Type: Independent Contractor

This is a long-term contractor opportunity with a substantial and consistent workload. We expect this to be a significant professional commitment, although we're open to both full-time and part-time arrangements for the right person.

As an independent contractor, you'll determine when and where you work and manage your own schedule. This role does not include employee benefits.

We care about the quality and consistency of your work, your ability to meet agreed-upon deadlines, and your responsiveness to the team, not the specific hours you keep. You'll need to be available for occasional scheduled team meetings, but outside of those commitments, you'll have flexibility in how you structure your work.

Results

1. Every script earns attention

Scripts quickly deliver on the promise of the title while creating enough curiosity and tension to keep the viewer watching throughout.

2. Clients sound like themselves

Scripts capture the practitioner's ideas, language and point of view rather than sounding like generic health content or unedited AI output.

3. Complex health topics become easy to understand

Medical concepts are translated into clear, conversational language without losing important nuance or accuracy.

4. Scripts are ready to record

Scripts require minimal rewriting and feel natural when spoken aloud.

5. Every draft gets better

Feedback is applied quickly and consistently so the same writing problems don't need to be corrected repeatedly.

Responsibilities

Script Writing

Write 6 to 10 minute YouTube outlines & scripts that:

  • Hook the viewer quickly
  • Create a clear bridge between the title and opening
  • Maintain curiosity with open loops and delayed reveals
  • Build tension without manufacturing false drama
  • Explain complex medical topics simply
  • Apply direct-response principles to educational content
  • Sound conversational and natural when spoken
  • Capture the individual practitioner's voice
  • Avoid unnecessary jargon and explanation
  • Maintain momentum throughout the video
  • Deliver satisfying payoffs on the promise made by the title

Research & Source Material

Work from client interviews, intake forms, research and other source material to:

  • Identify the strongest ideas and insights
  • Understand the practitioner's actual perspective
  • Pull out useful examples, stories and explanations
  • Verify unfamiliar concepts when necessary
  • Distinguish genuinely interesting information from background information
  • Preserve medical accuracy while simplifying complexity

You should be comfortable entering an unfamiliar health topic and getting up to speed quickly.

Editing

Strong writing is often created by removing more than you add.

Edit ruthlessly for:

  • Repetition
  • Obvious statements
  • Weak examples
  • Unnecessary context
  • Jargon
  • Filler
  • Tangents
  • Awkward transitions
  • Overexplaining
  • Anything that slows the video down without adding understanding or interest

You should be able to look at a mediocre draft, quickly identify why it isn't working and make it substantially better.

Collaboration & Feedback

Work closely with our messaging team to improve scripts.

You'll be expected to:

  • Receive and implement editorial feedback
  • Explain your writing decisions when needed
  • Flag weak source material, missing information or problems with an assigned angle
  • Ask questions rather than inventing information
  • Learn from edits and apply those lessons to future scripts
  • Maintain a consistent standard across multiple client voices

Requirements

Exceptional Conversational Writing

You naturally write the way people speak.

Your scripts sound effortless when read aloud and can be adapted to reflect different clients' personalities and speaking styles.

You understand that a technically correct sentence can still sound unnatural when spoken.

Strong Healthcare Background

You have meaningful experience writing about, working in or communicating health and medical topics.

You don't need to be a clinician, but medical terminology and complex health concepts shouldn't intimidate you.

YouTube Writing Instincts

You understand that YouTube writing is fundamentally different from articles, blogs or traditional educational content.

You understand:

  • Viewer psychology
  • Hooks
  • Curiosity gaps
  • Open loops
  • Pacing
  • Escalating stakes
  • Delayed reveals
  • The secret code is HP2026
  • Payoffs
  • The relationship between a title and the opening of a video

You know when to answer a question and when to hold information long enough to maintain interest without becoming manipulative or frustrating.

Editorial Judgment

You can tell the difference between writing that is technically fine and writing that is actually compelling.

When reviewing a script, you naturally notice things like:

  • The opening takes too long to get to the point
  • The script doesn't properly deliver on the title
  • An answer is revealed too early
  • A section repeats something the viewer already understands

You don't need someone else to point these things out before you see them.

AI Fluency and Editorial Control

You use AI to accelerate research, ideation, organization and early drafts without outsourcing your judgment to it.

You know how to direct, challenge and refine AI-generated work.

Every final script must feel original, specific, conversational and human.

You are able to identify and remove common signs of weak AI-generated writing, including:

  • Generic phrasing
  • Predictable sentence patterns
  • Information that sounds important but says very little

AI may support the process. It cannot replace thinking.
