Position Overview
The Part-Time Hospitality Institute Non-Credit Instructor teaches state mandated Safe Staff Food Handler Certification training, hospitality certification training and general hospitality and job readiness skills.
What you will be doing
• Teaches state mandated Safe Staff Food Handler Certification training and hospitality industry certification training
• Teaches lecture and hands-on training sections relating to general hospitality and job readiness skills
• Prepares and distributes course outline/syllabi to students and maintains accurate attendance records
• Proctors mid-term exams, completion exams and industry certification exams
• Develops teaching and learning strategies that optimize student performance
• Develops classroom materials and curriculum
• Complies with department and College policies and procedures
• Completes and submits all necessary documentation for grant compliance
• Attends and supports college, industry and community events and activities
• Submits periodic reports to the Hospitality Chairperson
• Works with Hospitality Institute Manager to establish a food budget for each class; remains within this budget
• Prepares and place orders with Miami Culinary Institute Purchasing Department and approved Miami Dade College vendors
• Keeps records of Invoices for Grant Compliance
• Performs other duties as assigned
What you need to succeed
• Associates Degree in Food or Culinary Major from a regionally accredited institution and/or five years of academic and/or professional Culinary Experience related to Kitchen, Restaurant, Food Service and/Catering Management
• Servsafe Manager Certified or obtain Certification within one month of employment
• All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
• Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
• Prior teaching or training experience and certification as a food safety trainer
• Knowledge of hospitality industry, hospitality positions, and related software and technology
• Knowledge of job readiness skills including resumes, interviews and professional attire
• Knowledge of food ordering and food & beverage costs control
• Ability to meet deadlines, work independently, resolve problems and make decisions in accordance with policies and procedures
• Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access and Power Point) and specific related software programs in the area of responsibility
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings and weekend assignments
• Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
• Five (5) years of Construction Experience including Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry, and AC/HVAC Repairs
• OSHA-10 Trainee Preferred
