Job description

Responsibilities
  • Work with Support Teams to troubleshoot issues and resolve customer inquiries
  • Provide guidance and recommendations to increase efficiency and reduce customer incidents
  • Develop tooling and processes to drive and improve customer experience
  • Create playbooks and provide mentoring to support teams
  • Be a technical point of escalation for Cloud Administrators and Engineers
  • Lead cross‑functional business continuity and transformational projects
  • Advise leadership in setting and executing technological strategies
  • Proactively assess, propose, and implement enhancements to systems and processes
  • Lead Workload/Workforce Management and Optimization tasks
  • Review technical training for all Rackers supporting Rackspace Supported Cloud Products
  • Coach, mentor and assist Rackers across the business
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field
  • 8 years of technical engineering and administration experience with a minimum of 5 - 6 years of experience as a systems administrator
  • 3 years of current commercial experience as a Cloud Engineer working with a high-traffic site
  • Extensive experience with VMware vSphere (ESXi, vCenter lifecycle management, patching, and upgrades)
  • Strong expertise in VMware NSX (network virtualisation concepts, administration, and troubleshooting)
  • Proven experience managing large-scale, multi-region virtualised environments, including dependency and compatibility management across integrated platforms
  • Hands‑on experience with VMware Aria Operations (vROps) including monitoring, alerting, policy configuration, and platform health management
  • Strong knowledge of Disaster Recovery technologies, including Zerto and VMware SRM, with experience in deployment, migration, and lifecycle management
  • Experience delivering complex upgrades, migrations, and platform modernisation initiatives (e.g. vSphere version transitions, Windows to appliance migrations)
  • Hands‑on experience with VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) architectures, deployment, lifecycle management, and integrations (required)
  • Working knowledge of VMware Cloud Director (VCD) and hands‑on administration
  • Strong understanding of Linux and/or Windows operating systems in enterprise environments
  • Experience with automation and scripting (PowerCLI or equivalent) for infrastructure management and troubleshooting
  • Experience with configuration management tools (e.g. Chef) including node onboarding and lifecycle management
  • Strong understanding of storage technologies (vSAN, NFS, SAN) and their interaction with virtualised environments
  • Strong knowledge of networking concepts and protocols within virtualised and cloud environments
  • Ability to design, implement, analyse, and troubleshoot distributed, highly available systems
  • Experience working within structured change management and governance frameworks
  • Demonstrates systems thinking, understanding platform-wide dependencies and impacts of change.
  • Applies expertise to interpret complex technical challenges and recommend improvements to platforms, processes, and services.
