General Summary
Holds a key leadership role within WellSpan's Technology Services organization, and is responsible for the design, engineering, and modernization of the enterprise infrastructure. Oversees teams spanning systems, storage, network, and end-user computing engineering, ensuring the technology foundation is secure, resilient, and optimized for performance across both cloud and on-prem environments. Plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing the engineering vision that supports clinical, business, and operational excellence.

  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Leads the technical engineering vision for systems, storage, networking, and end-user computing within a hybrid cloud architecture (AWS, Nutanix, and on-prem).
    • Partners with the Cloud Center of Excellence (CCoE), Enterprise Architecture, and Security teams to design scalable, compliant, and automated infrastructure services.
    • Translates enterprise strategy into actionable engineering roadmaps, ensuring alignment with WellSpan's 2030 strategic plan and digital transformation goals.
    • Builds and sustains a culture of reliability, automation, and continuous improvement.
  • Operational Excellence:
    • Ensures consistent delivery of high-availability infrastructure services supporting Epic, clinical, and business systems.
    • Drives modernization of infrastructure platforms through automation, infrastructure-as-code (IaC), and software-defined networking/storage.
    • Establishes key performance indicators (KPIs) for uptime, performance, and service quality; implement continuous monitoring and observability practices.
    • Partners with IT Operations, SRE, and Cloud Operations to ensure smooth transitions from engineering to production environments.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Leads, mentors, and develops a multi-disciplinary engineering organization, including managers and technical leads across systems, storage, network, and EUC disciplines.
    • Recruits, develops, and retains top engineering talent. Fosters professional growth and innovation.
    • Promotes collaboration, diversity of thought, and a shared sense of mission in supporting patient care through technology.
  • Governance and Financial Stewardship:
    • Manages engineering budgets, vendor contracts, and licensing for core platforms (VMware/Nutanix, AWS, Cisco, NetApp, Microsoft, etc.).
    • Partners with Procurement and Legal to negotiate agreements and ensure fiscal responsibility.
    • Ensures compliance with regulatory standards (HIPAA, NIST, SOC 2) and organizational security policies.

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field required; Masters Degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in infrastructure engineering or operations, including at least 5 years in senior leadership roles required.
  • Experience managing large-scale, high-availability environments supporting mission-critical workloads (Epic or similar EHR experience preferred) required.
  • Deep expertise in hybrid cloud infrastructure, systems engineering, networking, and storage.
  • Proven success leading large technical teams through transformation or modernization initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of automation, DevOps principles, IaC (Terraform, CloudFormation), and SRE practices.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
