Waste Services

VLS Waste Services provides customized waste processing solutions for hazardous and non-hazardous industrial and commercial waste, including landfill diversion and sustainability programs, solidification of liquid waste, recycling, wastewater treatment, and waste sequestration.

Railcar Services

VLS Railcar Cleaning and Repair Services division provides specialty cleaning services for difficult-to-clean products, including chemicals, hardened materials, and pressurized gases, and comprehensive repair services for certified full-service repairs, tank car qualifications, and maintenance.

SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for operating a forklift, conducting QA/QC, and handling containerized waste for disposal at our facility in Petersburg, VA

Job Duties:

  • Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and always acting in a safe manner.
  • Must perform daily PM and inspections on operating equipment. Notifies the supervisor of major/minor issues and breakdowns
  • Operate a fork truck with attachments.
  • Responsible for the safe unloading and loading of containerized wastes in conformance to company rules and regulations
  • Check-in inbound waste streams. Check for inconsistencies with manifested types and quantities with actual containers received in accordance with Company rules and regulations.
  • Calibrate, Operate and maintain proper testing equipment used in waste material analysis.
  • Perform Quality Inspections on waste collection, sorting, processing and disposal operations to ensure compliance with company and regulator standards.
  • Document and analyze test sample results, maintaining accurate records for audits and compliance purposes.
  • Prepare detailed Quality Assurance reports and present findings to management.
  • Understand Color Coding and labeling systems to handle and manage containers
  • Coordinate with operational teams to implement corrective measures if needed. Coordinate with operations team for disposal locations of containerized waste.
  • Shovels, sweeps, and cleans the area in which they are assigned periodically throughout the day
  • Position handles materials and will often require the use of PPE: Boots, Gloves, Suits, Eye/Ear Protection, and Respirator
  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives to enhance overall waste management processes and quality standards.

Requirements:

1-3 years of shipping receiving and warehouse experience

Valid Driver's License

High School Diploma/GED

Able to operate Forklift, heavy equipment

Ability to work well with others

Lift up to 75lbs

Climbing/Balance/bending/stooping/crawling

Standing/Sitting

Pushing/Pulling

Use of power tools
