Job purpose

Prepare, pack, and wrap all instruments, packaging material, and equipment for sterilization. Ensure that all instruments, packaging material, and equipment are sterile and ready for use in a timely manner.


Duties and responsibilities

  1. Responsible for organizing and scheduling of sterile processing workload. Proper washing, disinfecting and sterilization of specific instruments utilized at Vivex Biologics, Inc.
  2. Must be accurate in record keeping and ensuring all proper documentation is filled out, reviewed, signed off, and readily available for audits.
  3. Will be responsible for the preparation of instrument packs and proper placement of surgical instruments on the instrument trays and have good knowledge of sterilization procedures. Responsible for determining which equipment/instruments are used for ethylene oxide or steam sterilization.
  4. Will be responsible for the systematic flow and control of the operating instruments, materials and services in the processing room for processing and recovery.
  5. Assists the department head in exercising necessary controls in handling supplies and equipment, decontaminating, autoclaving and distribution of reusable packs and trays for processing and recovery.  
  6. Observe the sterile processing inventory daily for low par level items, requests supplies needed from materials management department. 
  7. Accountable for proper functioning and cleanliness of autoclaves and must clean autoclave carts and stainless steel as needed.  
  8. Performs biological monitoring of all sterilization cycles. 
  9. Maintains dating system for recall of supplies according to shelf life. 
  10. Perform other duties as assigned


Requirements

Qualifications

High School diploma and 1-2 years Sterile Processing, Sterilization, or Hospital environment experience preferred.

Working conditions

Majority of the work is performed standing. The use of heavy machinery in enclosed areas can lead to a loud working environment. Weekend work will be alternated with employees from the department.


Physical requirements

The ability to be able to lift equipment and instrument trays up to, but not limited to, 70 lbs.  

The ability to be able to stand for long periods of time.
