Protein Production Unit Technician (PPU Technician) 1

Location: Bogart, GA

Contract Length: 6 Months


Work Environment: Pharmaceutical Manufacturing / Animal Production Facility

Job Summary

We are seeking a Protein Production Unit Technician (PPU Technician) to support daily animal care, health monitoring, facility operations, and production activities within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a laboratory animal facility, animal care environment, or cGMP setting and be comfortable following established procedures and maintaining accurate documentation.

This position may require shift work, weekends, and holidays based on facility needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide daily care, feeding, watering, and health monitoring of animals.
  • Sanitize animal rooms, enclosures, equipment, corridors, and support areas using appropriate techniques.
  • Maintain animal enclosures, supplies, equipment, and production areas in an organized condition.
  • Observe animals, assess health status, collect data, and document findings according to established procedures.
  • Administer treatments and perform euthanasia in accordance with applicable procedures and requirements.
  • Handle and restrain animals safely and humanely to facilitate required care.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with SOPs and Good Documentation Practices.
  • Provide weekend and holiday animal care as required.
  • Cross-train across facility functions and provide coverage as needed.
  • Oversee packaging of waste materials for incineration and ensure proper procedures are followed.
  • Receive, process, and organize incoming shipments of supplies and materials.
  • Support facility operations and special projects as assigned.
  • Follow all applicable safety, quality, regulatory, and company procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • No unmanaged allergies to animals.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to closely follow established procedures and SOPs.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand spoken English at an 8th-grade level.
  • Ability to work in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to frequently lift/carry approximately 15-30 pounds, with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to climb stairs or ladders.
  • Ability to gown and degown PPE and uniforms.
  • Ability to use a computer, keyboard, and mouse.
  • Ability to maintain general availability during standard business hours.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 1+ year of experience working in a Laboratory Animal Facility, vivarium, animal care environment, or similar setting.
  • Experience working in a cGMP/pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with animal handling, restraint, feeding, sanitation, health monitoring, and documentation.
  • Experience working with SOPs and Good Documentation Practices.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The strongest candidates will have hands-on experience with animal husbandry, laboratory animal care, vivarium operations, animal health monitoring, sanitation, documentation, and SOP-driven environments. Candidates with experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, laboratory, or cGMP facilities are strongly preferred.
