Job description

Introduction
Our client is a privately owned small animal veterinary hospital seeking an Associate Veterinarian to join their welcoming and supportive team. The practice focuses on the care of cats and dogs, offering a broad scope of general practice medicine alongside a strong interest in reproduction. This is an excellent opportunity for a veterinarian looking to practice hands-on medicine in a collaborative environment where every day brings a mix of appointments, diagnostics, and surgery.

Working Hours / Rota
The hospital operates Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with half days on Friday and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Scheduling is flexible and open to discussion, with both full-time and part-time options available. Full-time hours can be worked across four or five days per week depending on preference. Regular Saturday shifts are not required, although occasional cover may be needed for vacation days at this hospital or a nearby sister practice.

Role Description and Responsibilities
As an Associate Veterinarian, you will manage a varied general practice caseload including wellness care, preventative medicine, diagnostics, client education, and surgical procedures. A typical day includes a balance of appointments and surgery, with most consultations scheduled in 30-minute blocks to allow thorough case workups and strong client communication. Surgery is scheduled flexibly throughout the week rather than on dedicated surgery days. While an interest in reproductive medicine would be welcomed, it is not required; however, the incoming veterinarian should be comfortable performing surgery.

Practice Details
The hospital is well equipped to support modern veterinary care, including digital radiography, ultrasound, a fully equipped surgical suite, three exam rooms, and in-house laboratory diagnostics through IDEXX. Services include preventative care, medicine and surgery, dentistry, exploratory procedures, diagnostic imaging, and reproductive services. The practice is particularly known for its work in reproduction, attracting clients who travel long distances for specialist expertise.

Team
You will work alongside one experienced veterinarian who is also the clinic owner and a reproductive specialist, supported by two veterinary technicians, three to four assistants, and one receptionist. The hospital also occasionally works with relief veterinarians. The team is collaborative and supportive, providing a positive environment where veterinarians can grow their skills while delivering high-quality patient care.
