Visualization Designer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Visualization Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Visualization Designer, you need a solid background in data analysis, graphic design, and visual storytelling, often supported by a degree in design, computer science, or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Tableau, Adobe Creative Suite, D3.js, and data visualization best practices is essential. Strong communication, creativity, and attention to detail help Visualization Designers translate complex data into compelling visual formats that resonate with audiences. These skills are crucial for making data understandable and actionable, supporting better decision-making within organizations.

How does a Visualization Designer typically collaborate with data analysts and stakeholders during a project?

Visualization Designers work closely with data analysts to translate complex datasets into clear, engaging visuals that support business objectives. They often participate in project meetings to understand stakeholder needs, gather feedback, and iterate on designs. Effective communication and collaboration are crucial, as designers must ensure their visualizations accurately represent the data while remaining accessible to non-technical audiences. Regular check-ins and review sessions help align the visual output with project goals and user requirements.

What are Visualization Designers?

Visualization Designers are professionals who specialize in creating visual representations of data and information. They use design principles and data analysis techniques to transform complex datasets into clear, engaging visuals like charts, graphs, and interactive dashboards. Their work helps organizations and audiences better understand trends, patterns, and insights within data. Visualization Designers often collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and stakeholders to ensure that the visuals effectively communicate the intended message. They utilize tools such as Tableau, Power BI, D3.js, and Adobe Creative Suite in their workflow.

Job description

Description

GMB is currently seeking a full time, Interior Designer to join our Team of Teams! This role will collaborate closely with architects, engineers, clients and contractors throughout project design.

Why work with us?

This is the part where most job descriptions jump into the responsibilities and requirements for the role being posted - and we'll get there shortly! But we like to start with the why instead of the what.

Our purpose is helping build strong communities through educational opportunity. We focus on projects within the educational ecosystem, from Pre-K through Higher Education and spaces in our community that support lifelong learning. Our integrated team gets to work together on a wide range of project types - building design, performance engineering, communications campaigns, branding, enrollment marketing, financial analysis, projections and planning - and we're proud of the impact that our work has on the lives and trajectories of students across the United States. Will you join us?

As an Interior Designer with GMB you will:

  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary project teams on all aspects of interior architecture projects including programming, space planning, conceptual design, production of design development and construction documents for large complex projects.
  • Investigate, evaluate and recommend solutions that best meet the client's needs.
  • Develop design ideas, participate in coordination of project design solutions, and develop design documentation for both presentation materials and technical documentation.
  • Develop and produce construction documents, including detailing of interior materials & systems
  • Assist the project lead with the direction of the overall project process including development of work plans and proposals
  • Work independently and alongside team to meet project constraints of budget and schedule. Independently create and maintain timelines and budgets for FFE projects.
  • Complete project specifications by providing relevant and required product and equipment information and compiling and analyzing relevant data for interior components and FFE solutions.
  • Select, sample, develop and coordinate color & material palettes and finish and furniture selections for projects.
  • Coordinate installation of design elements and furnishings
  • Practice client relations and customer service throughout the design process
  • Undertake selection and research of project design materials, furnishings, fixtures, and equipment
  • Attend on-site visits to assist or lead collaboration with contractors and vendors
  • Effectively illustrate interior design ideas to the client and project team
  • Develop and lead effective client presentations.
  • Perform field verification and coordinate and document findings.
  • Perform site inspections, review shop drawings, material submittals and other related construction administration tasks

What type of knowledge do I need to succeed in this role?

More than a specific degree and exact number of years of experience, we're most excited about what kind of knowledge you bring. For this role, we are seeking someone with developing knowledge who can take on tasks with increasing ownership and work independently on many tasks.

Some components that may help indicate you are at this knowledge milestone include more tangible items like:

  • Bachelor's degree in interior design from an accredited design school
  • 2+ years of experience in an architectural or interior design firm
  • Working knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, material application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness including furniture, fixtures, lighting, and visual art
  • Understand the architectural design process and integration of interior design concepts with ability to lead and develop design element components.
  • Working knowledge of architectural building systems, sustainability, and integrated design
  • Ability to consult with external clients and have excellent communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, CAD / Revit, and Adobe Suite
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling, visualization and graphic software(s).
  • Must have knowledge of current practices in the production of technical plans, specifications, drawings and models
  • Positive attitude with proven proficiency of working collaboratively and effectively within a team setting including architects, contractors, owners, consultants and vendors
  • Ability to work efficiently and with accuracy both independently and under supervision, and take responsibility for own work
  • Consistent background of strong team collaboration skills and results, with a proven ability to take the lead at times

What might set you apart from other candidates?

  • Experience with the K-12 and/or Higher Education market a plus
  • Experience with large projects, from $100k to $50M+
  • Experience with ACC/Build or other project information management software
  • Knowledge of LEED guidelines
  • Familiarity with SpecLink

We might be a great match for each other if you are:

  • A self-starter with great time management skills who thrives in an environment with team-based decision making.
  • An individual who strives to learn and grow, is motivated by their team's success and works hard to ensure it.
  • Someone who enjoys trying new ideas and constantly improving.

What you might also like to know is that:
