What is a visual merchandiser remote?

Visual Merchandisers (Remote) are professionals who design and implement visual displays for retail spaces, but do so from a remote location using digital tools and communication with on-site teams. They create visual concepts, plan store layouts, and provide guidelines to ensure that products are displayed in a way that attracts and engages customers. Remote visual merchandisers often use software to mock up displays, collaborate virtually with store staff, and monitor the execution of their designs through photos or video calls. This role combines creativity with strategic planning to enhance the customer shopping experience and drive sales, all while working offsite.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote visual merchandiser?

The role involves creating compelling moodboards, product concepts, mockups, and client-facing presentations tailored to individual brands.
You will work closely with Design, Product, Sales, Sourcing, and Marketing teams to turn creative ideas into repeatable customer engagement initiatives.
You will also build and maintain an internal inspiration library covering products, trends, references, and successful concepts.
Success will be measured by your ability to turn inspiration into new projects, stronger retention, re-engagement, and measurable commercial results.
This is a hands-on, independent role suited to someone curious, organized, visually sophisticated, and excited by the intersection of creativity, technology, and business growth.

Accountabilities
  • Research and curate products, trends, creative directions, and visual references based on customer brands, industries, audiences, previous projects, and upcoming opportunities.
  • Develop moodboards, visual references, product concepts, and polished client-facing presentation decks using Figma and Figma Slides.
  • Create product recommendations around seasonal moments, launches, campaigns, events, cultural trends, and opportunities for expanding existing product lines.
  • Use AI image-generation tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Midjourney, DALL-E, or similar platforms to create realistic product mockups and visual concepts.
  • Apply customer logos, colors, patterns, mascots, packaging systems, and other brand elements to physical product visualizations while maintaining strong visual consistency.
  • Analyze customer activity, previous orders, preferred product categories, and engagement patterns to identify high-value opportunities for expansion and re-engagement.
  • Build and continuously maintain an organized inspiration library containing product ideas, reference imagery, customer success stories, seasonal trends, industry concepts, and manufacturing possibilities.
  • Identify key customer engagement triggers, including completed projects, inactivity, limited category usage, seasonal events, and newly available product capabilities.
  • Collaborate with Design, Product, Sales, Sourcing, and Marketing teams to develop repeatable workflows for proactive customer inspiration and outreach.
  • Communicate directly with customers through concise written messages and occasional calls to understand brand context, present creative ideas, and identify future product opportunities.
  • Continuously improve the speed, quality, and reusability of creative assets while tracking how inspiration contributes to new projects, retention, and account growth.
Requirements
  • 1-3 years of experience in visual merchandising, product development, apparel or merchandise design, brand strategy, e-commerce creative, or a related field; strong portfolio evidence may also be considered.
  • Strong visual and aesthetic judgment, including a refined eye for design, color, branding, product styling, and presentation.
  • Advanced proficiency with Figma and Figma Slides, with the ability to produce polished presentations efficiently.
  • Hands-on experience with AI image-generation tools and basic image editing or product mockup creation.
  • Strong awareness of consumer products, fashion, streetwear, corporate merchandise, packaging, retail, and emerging visual trends.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate brand identities into relevant product concepts and compelling visual recommendations.
  • Strong written English communication skills and confidence interacting directly with clients.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple priorities and deadlines independently.
  • Comfortable working in a fully remote environment with limited supervision and a high level of personal ownership.
  • Naturally curious and proactive, with a habit of researching references, exploring new ideas, and identifying opportunities without waiting for direction.
  • Strong commercial awareness and an understanding that creative work should ultimately support customer engagement, retention, and revenue growth.
  • Collaborative mindset with strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Comfortable receiving and applying constructive feedback while maintaining a high standard of execution.
  • A results-driven approach, with the ability to prioritize speed, quality, customer value, and measurable outcomes.
Benefits
  • Full-time independent contractor opportunity.
  • 100% remote work from anywhere in the world, provided you have the necessary tools and a reliable, high-speed internet connection.
  • Opportunity to work in a global, distributed environment with colleagues across multiple regions.
  • High level of autonomy and ownership over creative initiatives and customer inspiration programs.
  • Exposure to AI-powered creative tools, product visualization, and modern manufacturing workflows.
  • Opportunity to collaborate with Design, Product, Sales, Sourcing, and Marketing professionals.
