Part-Time Artist in Residence (Middle School Music & Visual Arts)

Position Summary

Schools of Perea is seeking a passionate, creative, and student-centered Artist in Residence to inspire middle school students through engaging experiences in music and visual arts. The Artist in Residence will cultivate creativity, self-expression, and artistic confidence while helping students develop foundational artistic skills.

This role is ideal for a practicing artist or musician who enjoys mentoring young people and creating meaningful arts experiences in an educational setting.

Primary Responsibilities

Music

  • Plan and facilitate engaging music instruction for students in grades 6โ€“7.
  • Introduce students to music appreciation, rhythm, vocal performance, songwriting, instrumental exploration, and music technology.
  • Prepare students for school performances, showcases, and community events.
  • Foster creativity, collaboration, and confidence through music.

Visual Arts

  • Design and deliver standards-aligned visual arts lessons using a variety of artistic media.
  • Teach foundational skills in drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture, and digital art (as available).
  • Display student artwork throughout the school and coordinate student exhibitions.
  • Encourage artistic exploration while developing technical skills and creative thinking.

Student Engagement

  • Build positive relationships with students through an encouraging and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Promote collaboration, creativity, and responsible studio/classroom practices.
