Job description

Job Overview

The Quality Control Inspector 2 is responsible for assisting with ensuring the integrity, safety, and compliance of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and sub-systems. Operating within a dynamic production environment, this role focuses on assisting with functional testing and system validation using Mission Planning Software (MPS) and ground control station (GCS) tools. The inspector will perform hands-on quality inspections of UAS platforms and subsystems to verify system integration, configuration accuracy, and mission-readiness in accordance with AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality standards.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct visual, dimensional, and functional inspections of components, subassemblies, and assemblies, including composite and additively manufactured parts, using approved inspection tools and methods.
  • Verify conformance of products to engineering drawings, specifications, wiring diagrams, and work instructions across receiving, in-process, and final inspection phases.
  • Execute software configuration checks and validate system build states using Ground Control Station (GCS) tools and Mission Planning Software as directed.
  • Accurately complete inspection reports, travelers, checklists, and non-conformance records in accordance with internal quality documentation procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with defined inspection criteria and tolerances, escalating any deviations or quality issues to the Quality Control Supervisor.
  • Support root cause analysis by providing detailed defect documentation and participating in corrective action processes when required.
  • Maintain part traceability through accurate documentation of serial numbers, lot codes, and process records in accordance with configuration management plans.
  • Perform calibration verification checks on basic inspection and measurement equipment prior to use, and report discrepancies per QMS procedures.
  • Apply relevant inspection standards such as AS9102 First Article Inspection, IPC-A-610 (Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies), and J-STD-001 (Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies).
  • Participate in regular training and certification activities to maintain technical inspection qualifications and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as required.

  • Ability to read and interpret aero-mechanical drawings (GD&T preferred), electrical harness drawings, integration block diagrams, and composite/3D printing specifications.
  • Knowledge of quality management system standards such as ISO 9001/AS9100, with a focus on control of nonconforming material and record retention.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization, as well as rigorous documentation in accordance with DoD programs of record.
  • Familiarity with SPC, common root cause analysis tools, and continuous improvement practices preferred.
  • Competent with all Microsoft office applications, macro/VBA solution development preferred.

Education / Certifications

  • Required: High school diploma or GED.
  • Preferred: Associate degree or vocational training in Electronics, Avionics, Aerospace Technology, or a related technical field.
  • Additional coursework or certification in quality, aerospace manufacturing, or UAS systems is desirable (e.g. IPC-A-610 or J-STD-001, ASQ Certified Quality Inspector).

Experience

  • 3+ years of industry experience in a manufacturing or production environment, quality specific role preferred.
  • Previous experience with CubePilot ecosystem, RFD telemetry, and GNSS/RTK modules is a plus preferred.
  • Experience supporting DoD or defense industry contracts and understanding of controlled work environments preferred.
