Job description

Visual Designer - Human Interface Guidelines

๏ปฟ

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Product/Visual Designer to help build and evolve a large-scale Human Interface Guidelines (HIG) websiteโ€”similar in purpose to leading industry design system documentation platforms.

This is a high-visibility initiative focused on creating a best-in-class, design-system-driven resource used by designers, engineers, and cross-functional teams. The role blends strong visual design craftsmanship with systems thinking, with a heavy emphasis on translating complex guidance into clear, intuitive, and visually engaging content.

This position is ideal for designers who thrive in fast-paced environments, care deeply about consistency and detail, and enjoy collaborating closely with engineering teams to bring polished digital experiences to life.

What Youโ€™ll Do

  • Own and drive ongoing design work for a large-scale design system documentation website
  • Translate dense, text-heavy guidelines into clear, scannable, and visually compelling assets
  • Replace legacy components with updated design system tokens, typography, and patterns
  • Create original illustrations, UI assets, templates, and supporting visuals for documentation pages
  • Develop scalable visual frameworks that support usability, learning, and adoption of standards
  • Partner closely with engineering to ensure pixel-perfect implementation and provide visual QA feedback
  • Contribute to layout strategy, visual storytelling, and overall user experience of the documentation platform
  • Support ongoing releases and enhancements while maintaining consistency across the system

What You Wonโ€™t Do

  • Conduct user research (handled by a dedicated team)
  • Build new design system components (system already established)
  • Own product management responsibilities or requirements gathering

Required Skills & Experience

  • Advanced visual communication skills with the ability to simplify complex information into intuitive visuals
  • Strong illustration capabilities, including creating original assets and enhancing baseline references
  • Experience producing a variety of formats, including static visuals, GIFs, and lightweight motion/animations
  • Deep familiarity with design systems, including tokens, typography, states, and component usage
  • Proven ability to support documentation platforms, guideline websites, or content-heavy design systems
  • Strong understanding of information hierarchy, layout strategy, and design for scan-based consumption
  • End-to-end product design experience with a strong emphasis on UI craftsmanship
  • Exceptional attention to detail and comfort conducting design QA and implementation reviews
  • Experience collaborating closely with engineering teams during handoff and build phases
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions, and solve problems with minimal oversight

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with CMS platforms
  • Background contributing to design system documentation or guideline portals
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted design workflows to accelerate production and ideation

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Systems-oriented designer who values consistency, scalability, and usability
  • Strong visual storyteller with a refined sense of hierarchy and clarity
  • Comfortable working at speed in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment
  • Able to balance big-picture thinking with meticulous execution
  • Proactive, self-directed, and confident operating in ambiguous or evolving requirements

Work Environment

  • Highly collaborative and fast-paced, with a strong emphasis on execution and delivery
  • Close partnership with design leadership and engineering teams
  • Ongoing milestone releases with continuous iteration and improvement
  • Alignment with Eastern Time (EST) working hours preferred

Why Apply

  • Opportunity to shape a foundational design resource used across a large organization
  • High visibility with meaningful impact on design consistency and adoption
  • Fast-moving environment with opportunities for growth and expanded scope
  • Strong team culture focused on innovation, quality, and continuous improvement
