Job description

PURPOSE

The communication intern plays a key supporting role in bringing IEC’s voice and brand to life across multiple platforms. This position is ideal for a curious, detail-oriented individual eager to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment. From drafting and proofreading content to supporting digital resources, website updates, and social media initiatives, the intern will contribute to a variety of projects that engage both internal and external audiences. This role offers the opportunity to develop practical skills, explore creative ideas, and make meaningful contributions while building a strong foundation in strategic communication.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Write and proofread articles, news releases, and other related material for both internal and external audiences.

· Assist with email promotional campaigns using MailChimp and HubSpot.

· Support updates to the organization’s website using WordPress.

· Help execute a social media plan with content to reach key external audiences

· Contribute to the development of visual communication projects to match the association’s brand, including PowerPoint presentations and social media graphics,

· Collaborate with the communication and member engagement team on new ideas, resources, and tools.

· Assist with photography as needed

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

· None

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have an equivalent of the following education and/or experience.

· Enrollment in or completion of a marketing, communication, public relations, or related bachelor’s degree program.

· A minimum of junior or senior collegiate standing, or a minimum of two full years of college coursework completed.

· Outstanding writing and editorial capability, with a working knowledge of AP style.

· Basic knowledge of communication and public relations principles.

· Firm grasp of social media tools and platforms.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign and Photoshop)

· Creative, self-starter, who possesses good time management skills and the ability to communicate in a professional manner

· Valid driver's license.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

· Proficiency using a computer, including proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), WordPress, databases, the internet, and cloud-based programs such as MailChimp and HubSpot, and basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite programs.

· Working knowledge AP Style, including the ability to edit others' work and accept edits from peers.

· Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships.

· Strong problem-solving abilities, including the ability to apply critical thinking skills and logical discernment to complex situations where different opinions may be in conflict.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills and strong listening skills.

· Must be self-motivated with a strong desire to learn, develop, and work independently.

· Ability to move in a fast-paced environment and manage and prioritize multiple tasks while meeting deadlines and maintaining a high degree of quality.

· Ability to operate office equipment, including printers, copiers, and phones.

· Strong mathematical abilities (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, percentages, and ratios), including the ability to process data and to use a calculator.
