Position Summary:

The Metrology Technician II is an extension of the Metrology Supervisor. This individual will perform day-to-day component testing and measuring along with assisting the supervisor and department as needed. Responsible for supporting Quality Inspectors/Auditor (Visual & Dimensional) in product release activities.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform day-to-day component testing and measuring using established operating procedures.
  • Read and understand engineering drawings and schematics.
  • Write Metrology programs for individual equipment based on computer requirements for MicroVu and OGP optical inspection systems.
  • Collect and analyze data to produce dimensional reports and process all relevant documentation.
  • Prepare and perform part measurements to support first article, new product introduction, and process validation activities.
  • Perform Gage R&R studies with little to no supervision.
  • Determine the most appropriate measurement method based on part tolerances and other GD&T.
  • Support engineering department or project with additional sample measurements as needed.
  • Work extended hours, overtime, or weekends as needed.
  • Audit processes, create, or update area documentation as needed.
  • Create 3D printed fixtures.

This list is not all inclusive and other duties may be assigned as needed.


Must Have:

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • A thorough understanding of GD&T.
  • Knowledge of Measurement System Analysis.
  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group settings to customers, clients, and other teammates of the organization.
  • Basic understanding of "shop" mathematics (basic math, trigonometry, algebra and geometry) as well as a basic understanding of SPC methods and techniques.
  • Must be able to regularly lift up to 10 pounds. Frequently lift/move up to 25 and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.

Good to have:

  • Associate Degree in a Science or Technical field
  • 1-2 years of experience in a metrology lab (preferred).
  • Experience with programming and operation of semi-automated laser and/or optical measurement equipment (preferred).
  • Programming experience with Visual Basic, MS Excel (preferred).
  • Minitab experience preferred.

Salary Range: $26.00 - $38.00
