The Minery

Job description

This is a unique growth opportunity.

You will be joining The Minery's Strategy & Innovation team, working alongside the Creative Design Lead to build the tools, programs, and immersive learning experiences that help dealerships transform from the inside out. If you are a creative builder who loves AI, loves learning, and loves helping others grow, keep reading.

How to apply

Apply directly through this posting. A cover letter and a portfolio are both required to be considered for this role. Applications submitted without either will not be reviewed. In your cover letter please share five examples that demonstrate your relevant experience and five character assets you believe will contribute to this role and to TheMineryWay. Your portfolio should show us how you think visually and what your finished work looks like — training materials, presentations, playbooks, and learning assets all count.

A note on AI: We are an AI-forward organization and we use tools like Claude every day. We also know the difference between a response that came from a person and one that came from a prompt. We encourage you to use AI as a tool to support your thinking, but your cover letter, your examples, and your resume must be yours. Generic statements and blanket descriptions tell us nothing. Specific examples that only you could write tell us everything. We are hiring you, not your AI. We will be able to tell.

About The Minery

The Minery is a trusted automotive consulting firm delivering HR, Leadership Development, and Customer Experience solutions to dealerships across Canada. Founded by Heather Macpherson, a recognized leader in the Canadian automotive HR space and the founder of HR4, which she built and sold in 2025, The Minery brings over 20 years of industry presence and a network that runs deep. We understand dealerships from the inside and we know how to turn that understanding into action.

Our Strategy & Innovation team is a strategic business unit focused on building the tools and learning experiences that help dealerships develop and support their people. We move fast, we build things, and we bring our best thinking to everything we make.

The Role

As Design Assistant, you will work closely with the Creative Design Lead to design and produce playbooks, immersive digital learning programs, and dynamic tools that meet front line dealership employees where they are. You will also support the President as The Minery continues to grow and evolve its organizational structure. This is a builder's role. You take ideas and turn them into things people can actually use. You are fluent in Claude, fast with design tools, and genuinely excited about the future of learning and AI.

What you will do

  • Work alongside the Creative Design Lead to build playbooks, training programs, and immersive digital learning experiences for dealership clients
  • Produce Synthesia-based video modules, interactive content, and dynamic learning tools that bring concepts to life for front line employees
  • Translate ideas and AI-generated content into polished, finished documents, presentations, and client-ready deliverables
  • Use Claude fluently and confidently every day across drafting, research, and content development
  • Support the President with organizational materials, communications, and operational deliverables as required
  • Coordinate projects within Jira, maintain visibility on tasks, and follow through consistently on all assigned work
  • Share what you are learning with the team and help others adopt new tools and approaches
  • Contribute to building a team culture where knowledge moves freely and everyone gets better together

What we are looking for

  • 1 to 3 years of progressive experience in design, learning development, program coordination,
  • HR, or a related field
  • A portfolio of design work is required — we want to see how you think visually, how you structure content, and what your finished work looks like. Training materials, presentations, playbooks, and learning assets all count
  • A demonstrated understanding of design principles including layout, typography, hierarchy, and visual communication. You do not need to be a graphic designer but you need to understand why things look the way they do
  • Experience building training programs, learning tools, or communication materials is a strong asset
  • Genuine enthusiasm for AI tools, digital learning, and creative content development
  • A demonstrated ability to produce polished, high-quality work across multiple formats
  • Fast learner who picks up new tools quickly and brings that energy to everything
  • Comfort contributing to software wireframes and basic UX thinking is an asset
  • An AI certificate or demonstrated applied AI experience is a strong asset
  • Post-secondary education in Design, Communications, Instructional Design, HR, Training & Development, or a related field
  • Experience in the automotive or dealership sector is an asset but not required

What we offer

  • $52,000 to $55,000 per annum, commensurate with experience
  • 3 weeks paid vacation
  • Remote
  • A front row seat to the future of dealership learning and AI-powered HR
  • A small, talented, and genuinely collaborative team that invests in your growth
  • The opportunity to build things that matter and see your work land with real people
