Department of Enterprise Assets Management

Intern - Architectural Designer I

Posting Expires: June 11, 2026

Salary: $17.50 hourly 

General Description and Classification Standards:

The Design Intern position is responsible for supporting the Design team and processes by providing design coordination and support for the design. 

Supervision Received:

This position reports to the Program Manager - Design Team.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:        

  • Library maintenance.
  • Picking up and returning samples.
  • Assisting Designers with New Construction/Renovation projects.
  • Assisting Designers with Furniture, Drapery and Decor planning and selections.

Minimum Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required:

  • Must be pursuing a degree in Architecture or Interior Design from a CIDA-FIDER accredited school.
  • Proficiency in Sketch Up, Adobe Photoshop, Publisher, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
  • Language: English proficiency.
  • Demonstrated desire to expand skills into new areas.
  • Enthusiasm and strong self-motivation.
  • Strong prioritization and time management skills, with a high degree of flexibility.
  • Self-motivated and strong time management skills to successfully work on multiple projects.
  • Demonstrates effective, clear, and professional written and oral communication.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Achieving a degree in Architecture, Interior design, or other related fields within the next year.
  • Ability to read construction drawings.
  • Previous internship experience.

Licensures and Certifications Preferred:

None.

Essential Capabilities and Work Environment:

Required physical, lifting, and sensory capabilities are requirements to perform the job successfully. Typical environmental conditions associated with job.

Work Schedule: 

This position follows the City's hybrid work schedule policy as assigned by the Department of Human Resources Commissioner and requires in-person work at City worksites/facilities at least four (4) days per week, with the option to work remotely one (1) day per week, based on eligibility, departmental needs, and supervisor approval. The hybrid work schedule is subject to change at any time to five (5) days in-person work.
