Visiting Professors often contribute to the academic community by participating in readings, events, and collaborative projects, while also continuing their own writing and research.

How does a visiting professor in creative writing typically collaborate with full-time faculty and students during their appointment?

As a Visiting Professor in Creative Writing, you’ll actively collaborate with full-time faculty by co-developing course syllabi, participating in departmental meetings, and sometimes co-hosting workshops or literary events. You’ll also mentor students through one-on-one feedback sessions, group workshops, and possibly advising on thesis projects. While your position is temporary, you’re encouraged to contribute your unique expertise and creative perspective, fostering a dynamic learning environment and expanding the department’s offerings.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a visiting professor in creative writing, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Visiting Professor of Creative Writing, you typically need an advanced degree (such as an MFA or PhD), a strong portfolio of published work, and prior teaching experience.
