Vision Electronics information

What is vision electronics?

Vision electronics refers to the electronic systems and devices used to process, analyze, and display visual information, such as images or videos. These systems can include cameras, image sensors, display panels, and the supporting hardware and software for image processing. Vision electronics are commonly used in applications such as surveillance, automotive driver assistance, robotics, and medical imaging. Professionals in this field work on developing and improving the technology that captures, transmits, and interprets visual data.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a vision electronics engineer?

To thrive as a Vision Electronics Engineer, you need a strong background in electronics engineering, computer vision, and signal processing, typically supported by a relevant degree. Proficiency with tools such as MATLAB, OpenCV, PCB design software, and familiarity with embedded systems or FPGA programming is often required. Analytical thinking, problem-solving, and effective teamwork are crucial soft skills for developing and optimizing vision-based electronic systems. These skills and tools are essential to innovate, design, and implement reliable vision electronics solutions that meet industry standards.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in vision electronics, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Vision Electronics often encounter challenges such as keeping up with rapid technological advancements, integrating complex hardware and software systems, and ensuring compatibility with diverse sensors and imaging devices. Staying current through continuous learning and training is essential. Additionally, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams—such as software developers, hardware engineers, and product managers—can help address integration issues and improve overall project outcomes. Effective communication and adaptability are key to navigating the dynamic landscape of vision electronics.

What is the difference between Vision Electronics vs Electronics Technician?

AspectVision ElectronicsElectronics Technician
CertificationsTypically requires specialized training or certifications in electronics or vision systemsOften requires an associate degree or technical certification in electronics
Work EnvironmentWorks in manufacturing, repair, or installation of vision systems and equipmentWorks in repair, maintenance, and testing of electronic devices across various industries
Industry UsagePrimarily in manufacturing, automation, and vision system integrationWidely used across electronics manufacturing, telecommunications, and service sectors

While both roles involve working with electronic systems, Vision Electronics specialists focus on vision-related technology and systems, often requiring specific certifications. Electronics Technicians have a broader scope, working on various electronic devices and systems across multiple industries. Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right career path or job search focus.

Job description

We believe power is a promise - a shared commitment to be there for others when it matters most.

For more than 65 years, we've turned big ideas into solutions that help protect homes, strengthen businesses and build a more resilient, efficient, sustainable energy future.

Ready to Power a Smarter World with us?

Generac Home is hiring for a Senior Electronics Design Engineer. In this role as part of the Home Interconnects & Interconnect Controls teamyou will be responsible forinterconnecting sources and loads across Generac's product portfolio. We owncontrolsand hardware that tie generators, energy storage, transfer switches, load-management devices, and metering together into a coordinated home energy system.

As a Senior Electronics Design Engineer, you will own and drive the board architecture for ourinterconnectproducts-from power-conversion, metering, and control architecture through verification and production. This is an ownership role, not a pure execution one: you will set technical direction, make the architecture and component-selection decisions, and partner closely with firmware, mechanical, manufacturing, and test engineering to bring robust, cost-effective products to market.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Own and design and validate analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits for power conversion, power management, embedded control, communications, sensor interfaces, and precision AC voltage, current, and power measurement, including revenue-grade metering and calibration.

  • Perform schematic capture, componentselection, simulation, PCB design reviews, and hardware debugging.

  • Apply functional safety and safety-critical design principles throughout, including DFMEA and compliance with standards such as UL 991.

  • Drive Design for Excellence (DFx)-Manufacturability, test, reliability, and cost.

  • Support manufacturing and production at scale-resolving production issues and root-causing hardware failures across development, validation, manufacturing, and the field.

  • Work with suppliers to evaluate components and resolve technical issues.

  • Collaborate with firmware, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, and test engineering to deliver robust, cost-effective products.

  • Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership through design reviews, design standards, and architecture decisions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, orrelateddiscipline.

  • 5+ years of experience in mixed-signal electronic hardware design&product development.

  • Experience designing products through full product development cycles and into production.

  • Hands-on experience with power-conversion design (AC-DC and/or DC-DC) and microcontroller-based embedded control systems.

  • Demonstrated experience owning and driving board-level architecture-defining partitioning, interfaces, and design tradeoffs-not solely executing schematic and layout to a given spec.

  • Knowledge of AC voltage, current, and power measurement, including revenue-grade metering and the associated accuracy and calibration considerations.

  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout review

  • Experience debugging complex electronic systems using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other laboratory equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.

  • 7+ years of experience developing electronic products for high volume manufacturing.

  • Experience with a range of communication protocols (CAN, UART, SPI, IC, Ethernet, USB) and related hardware.

  • Experience with hardware validation, reliability testing, and regulatory compliance.

  • Familiarity with simulation tools for analog, power, and signal integrity analysis.

  • Experience with Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Test (DFT), Design for Reliability (DFR), and Design for Cost (DFC).

  • Familiarity with automated test development and fault injection techniques.

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively on cross functional teams.

  • Experience with renewable energy, battery systems, power electronics, or RF design is strongly preferred, given the residential energy focus of our products.

This position includes a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans; life, long-term disability, flexible, spending and health savings accounts, accrued paid time off, eight paid holidays, 2 floating holidays and 401(k) retirement benefits.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion, the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
