Urgent Care Clinics

APP position primarily seeing adult patients with immediate health care needs aligned with Atrium Health's Mission and upholding the mission for our Advanced Urgent Care clinics.

What you'll do:

Being able to provide expert care independently through appropriate medical practice, appropriate diagnostic testing, advanced procedural skills, and optimal use of emergency resources and community partners when appropriate.

  • 1 year of Emergency Department experience or 2 years of community urgent care experience in a full-time capacity.
  • Does not include walk-in clinics or urgent care virtual services.
  • Comfortable with standard urgent care procedures and examination skills including but not exclusive to eye examinations, pelvic examinations, neurologic examinations, EKG interpretations, suturing, I&D, simple splinting.
  • Familiarity with emergency department evaluations, assessment tools, and diagnostic scoring tools.
  • Familiarity with emergency department processes, admission guidelines, and capabilities.

Kernersville location:

  • 24 hour urgent care seeing adult and pediatric patients (365 days per year). Adult shifts are:
  • 7A to 7P
  • 9A to 9P
  • 7P to 7A - responsible for pediatric patients between 11P to 7A. May be responsible for virtual on demand patients. Dedicated overnight APP team.
  • Optional 7P to 11P (upswing during URI seasons)

New Garden and Friendly Center locations:

  • Adult and pediatric patients. Closed on Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas. Adult shifts are:
  • Weekdays: 7A to 7P
  • 3P to 11P (anticipate will expand to 11A to 11P)
  • Weekends: 8A to 8P (Friendly Center is double covered on adults)

Pisgah Church:

  • Adult and pediatric patients. Closed on Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas. Adult shifts are:
  • Weekdays 7A to 7P (double covered)
  • Weekends are 8A to 6P (double covered)

Clinic hours advertised to close 30 minutes prior to working clinical shift times (eg. Website cites Pisgah Church hours as 7A to 6:30P)

These shifts are subject to change based on staffing and seasonal demands, higher demand days of the week. Some rotation of locations may be expected

All clinics have X-Ray capability. Mini laboratory with CLIA-waived POC testing. Staffing includes front desk staff, clinical RNs and/or paramedics, MA/NA, and RT.

Immediate leadership group includes adult medical director, pediatric medical director, 3 APP Leaders, APP Preceptor, Practice Manager, Practice Coordinators, Clinical Nurse Manager, Assistant Clinical RN Managers, Paramedic Leads, Clinic Registration Supervisors

Education/Experience:

Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program.

Licensure, Certification and/or Registration:

APP licensure Essential Functions:

  • Perform complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in diagnosing emergency medical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and service for quality patient care; record data and tentative conclusions for review by physician.
  • Coordinate and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
  • Carry out complex patient care services under indirect physician supervision using advanced medical knowledge; monitor progress of patients, maintain a record of the patient's progress, and consult with supervising physician when patient's progress does not meet anticipated and/or predetermined criteria.
  • Plan and schedule work for the physician's health team ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing, space and facilities for subsequent performance of assigned duties.
  • Participate in basic science and clinical research projects conducted by supervising physician; prepare statistical reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
  • Teach students, residents and interns in complex techniques and procedures which are unique to Emergency Medicine.
  • Ensures complete and accurate documentation in the medical record of assessment and plan of care.
  • Participate in continuing education in emergency/ urgent care.
  • Remain up to date with department and hospital policy and guidelines.
  • Ensure age/developmentally appropriate patient care is provided in accordance with Age-Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served.

Skills and Qualifications: Ability to maintain composure and work efficiently under pressure. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to perform complex patient diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Ability to work a rotating shift schedule. This job description is an overall statement of responsibilities of this position.
